GREENSBORO — Janet Loops Stuart, of Greensboro, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 20, 2012. She is survived by husband Keith Stuart of Greensboro NC, brother Charles Loops and his family of Pittsboro, NC, daughter Catherine Stuart Wright and her husband Phillip Wright of Ruffin, NC, daughter Caren Lynn Stuart, her husband Brian Thornton, and their son Zan Stuart Thornton of Sanford, NC, and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, in-laws, and dear friends.
Born in Washington, DC, Janet and her family moved to Greensboro when she was in junior high school. A lifelong lover of the arts, Janet taught tap and ballet in high school and was an accomplished pianist accompanying her high school orchestra. After graduating from Greensboro Women's College, she married high school sweetheart, Keith, and began her career as an administrative assistant working for many years at Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company, Burlington Industries, and BGF Industries. She was an award winning macramé artist and teacher who sold many of her creations at arts and crafts shows and who pursued her love of writing (which she passed on to both of her daughters) by being an avid scrap booker, creative letter writer, and documentarian of her family's goings on. She had a passion for spending time in her yard and the woods surrounding her home, gardening, surf fishing, and vacationing at the beach with her family. She'll be remembered for her easy laugh, creative spirit, thoughtful words, and love and devotion to her family and friends.
The family will be holding a memorial celebration of Janet's life at a later date. Donations in her honor can be made to The Alzheimer's Association or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Friends wishing to have their remembrances of Janet shared during her memorial celebration are asked to send their words to her daughter, Caren Stuart, at 314 West Weatherspoon Street, Sanford NC 27330 or offer their condolences at www.news-record.com/obituaries/

To the family of Janet Stuart: I knew Janet's mother and father, Melba and Charles Loops, when I lived in the upstairs apartment of their house on Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. I think I met Janet once and corresponded some with her after moving from Greensboro. She was a lovely, sweet lady just like her mother. I send my heartfelt sympathy to the family.
Sincerely,
Diana Auman Carter

So sorry to learn of Janet's passing. I worked with her in the Treasurer's Office at Jefferson Standard many years ago. I remember her as a very professional, fashionable and pleasant co-worker. My condolences to her family and friends in this time of sorrow.
