Janette, Barbara Vruble and I were a class of 3 at the Jerome school during our 1st grade thru 6th grades. We were part of a school that that had a total of 24 students. We all attended Seymour Community School from the 7th thru 12th grades. During our high school years, I remember when Kay and Doug would drop Janette off at a local youth group where I was a member. It was after dark so they would go park behind the Jerome school and then pick her up an hour later. No one knows what went on behind the school but it was likely a lot more exciting that the youth group meetings. Janette was a good soul so she never told any stories about her sisters.

There's so many things that I'll remember about my grandma, but one of them being how excited she was anytime she saw me and her always calling me Dottie Jane. I never felt judged or less than she always made me feel very loved. She was definitely not only my number one fan but all of my cousins number one fan. She was nothing but supportive and kind to us and hopefully that is something that I take with me through my life. She is the definition of a grandma in my eyes.

We three sisters, Janette, Kay & I, dined together, walked in the rain at the Pella Tulip Festival & talked about the good times - past & present. Here are some photos of our visit in Cedar Rapids, IA in May of 2024.

As the middle daughter of Gerald and Eva Shriver, I was the odd one. Kay was the sweet one. Janette (Jimmy) was the loyal one.
As a family, we did "see the USA in Dad´s Chevrolet". The love of travel was instilled in us. Yet, I always knew Janette would remain in her childhood environs. She loved being an Iowa girl - content to be near her friends, her community and especially Mom and Dad. She cared for and managed their wellbeing until the end of days. I loved her goodness. And, was so very grateful for her many acts of kindness, sacrifice, love and devotion to them.
I last saw Janette in May of this year in Cedar Rapids, IA. After many years, we sisters finally got together. I had a grand visit with my remarkable sister. She was as I always remembered - grounded, caring, warm and generous. The years between times blended seamlessly into an even stronger bond. My fondest memory of that visit was watching her play cards with gusto. She was in her happy place - family, a competitive game and shared laughter.
My heart-felt condolences flow to Gary and my darling nieces - Michele, Tina and Angie. May God bless you and keep you close. I will miss my beloved dear sister beyond measure. The "Spirit in the Sky" awaits my beloved sister, Janette.

Loved my Aunty Jimmy so much. I will always remember her with a smile. Loved her sense of humor, her impishness, and her down to earth warmth. Her love of family was deep and proud.
So very glad we had such a nice visit recently in May. Attaching a couple of photos from that visit.
Love and hugs,
Lori & Dennis Born, Cedar Rapids, IA
