Janice McJimsey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 8, 2025.
**Mom Janice Marie "Cissy" McJimsey**, 67, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Born on September 10, 1957, in New Iberia; to June and Louise Mcjimsey. Janice lived a life marked by compassion, resilience, and a deep love for her family and community.

Janice dedicated much of her professional life to caring for others. She worked in nursing homes and hospitals throughout her career and ultimately retired as a Medical Laboratory Technician after many years of service at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Earlier in life, she explored her creative side as an event coordinator and also worked as a chemist for Martin Salt. Her diverse career path reflected both her intellect and her nurturing spirit.

A proud alumna of Morgan City High School, Janice was a talented saxophone player in the school's award-winning marching band. Her love of music remained with her throughout her life-she could often be heard singing or dancing to her favorite tunes. Music was not just a pastime but a source of joy that she shared freely with those around her.

Janice had an extraordinary gift for storytelling. Her infectious laughter and vivid tales made people feel instantly at ease; conversations with her could stretch for hours without ever feeling long. She was known for making people laugh and feel seen-qualities that endeared her to friends, neighbors, and anyone lucky enough to cross her path.

She found joy in the simple pleasures: reading voraciously (rarely seen without a book in hand), writing from the heart, cooking comforting meals, painting nails in bright colors, dressing up when the mood struck-or lounging in cozy gowns when it didn't. She believed that good food, comfortable pajamas, and a hot bath could cure almost anything-and she lived by that philosophy.

Janice loved spending time with her grandchildren-Myra, Ella, Lily, and Rosalena-who brought immense joy into her life. She cherished every moment with them and created memories filled with warmth and laughter.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Maria Stoltz; son John Stoltz; brothers Bryan McJimsey, Pat McJimsey, and Roy McJimsey; and grandchildren Myra, Ella, Lily, and Rosalena. She was preceded in death by her parents June and Louise McJimsey and sister Jeanine McJimsey.

Her passions extended beyond family to include earth science-a subject that fascinated her-and competition shows that kept her entertained. But above all else, it was Janice's unwavering compassion that defined her legacy. Whether you were hungry or simply having a rough day, she made sure you were cared for-with food from the heart or words of comfort that lingered long after they were spoken.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Rip Van Winkle Gardens for providing such a beautiful space to honor Janice's memory and to Martin & Castille Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this time. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has reached out with support as we navigate this profound loss.

May the memory of Mom Janice Marie "Cissy" McJimsey bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
