Janice May Shoppell

Jan and Keny were friends with my parents. They lived in one side of a duplex in Bronson and we were in the other for several years. Decades later we met again in Sturgis. We shared visits and phone calls. A very gracious woman. Praying for your loss.

I first met Janice when she and Keny took in my cousin, Margie Goodrich, out of the goodness of their hearts. Later, when she lived at the apartments in Sturgis, she and my Aunt Dorothy, who also lived in the same apartment building, became friends and I saw her again there. She was SO nice. I am very sorry for your loss, but am glad you had her as long as you did. God bless you all.

Our condolences to the whole Shoppell family. Janny is Tom's aunt, his mother's sister, and she has always been a major presence in his life and that of the whole family, even though Tom grew up on the East Coast and Janny lived her whole life in Indiana/Michigan. One of the most distinctive things in our memories is Janny' frequent and persistent letter writing. She and Barbara, her sister, wrote to each other every week, talked frequently on the phone, and often traveled together. They also visited each other at least once a year. The connection was regularly made for us because Janny never failed to send birthday cards to Tom and to me, Christmas cards, other holiday cards, and there was always a note about what was happening with her and the family, and with good wishes to us. She was a very special person, always cheerful, concerned about family and community, looking out for others, a great role model, helpful, kind, and decent. She was a light to the world around her. May she rest in peace and may the family find comfort in the many years of good memories.
