Janice L. (Benner) Thompson, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Crossville, Tenn. She was born on Aug. 1, 1941, in Indianapolis, the daughter of the late Lyal and Katherine Benner of Terre Haute.

Jan loved all animals and brought rescue cats and dogs into her home, and also loved gardening and planting flowers to attract the dozens of hummingbirds that visited her home. She planted a large herb garden that she loved planning her meals around. She loved American history, especially the Battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War, where she visited her sister regularly and toured the many battle sites.

Aunt Janny was a sweet, warm, fun, and wonderful person. Though not actually my aunt she was and always will be aunt Janny to me. I hope she's looking down on us and laughing, dancing, and singing some Neil. That's how I'll remember her :) Lynda, Brian, Bub, Judy, and Cliff... though I know your hearts are aching I hope you find some comfort in knowing that she's at peace now and doesn't have to fight anymore. I love you guys and you too Aunt Janny.

Mrs. "T" will be greatly missed. She was the best teacher I had at SVHS. Ill never forget the first time I saw her sister, I thought that I was seeing double then my sister told me that she has a twin. My prayers go out to the family. See you again Mrs. "T" ... Motor Mouths sister

I am so sorry for the loss of Jan. I had Jan as a supervising teacher at South Vermillion High School in 1984. She was the best. I have given her the credit for helping and guiding me to become a good teacher. Madonna Ball, Rosedale, IN
