It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, Godfather, and friend Jared Daniel Medina (Ned), 48, of Las Cruces, on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Jared was born on December 23, 1973, to Danny Medina and Geraldine Patterson. Though we are deeply saddened by our loss, we look back on the life of Jared with great joy. Jared was an intellectual, who considered himself a “free-thinker” and “critical thinker.” Any who had the pleasure to meet him, would surely agree. He effortlessly succeeded in all academic and intellectual endeavors; graduating from Oñate High School in 1992 and going on to be a successful business manager and owner of his own antiques and collectables business, What You Want. He was a prolific poet and writer, who received significant interest from publishers for a children's book he penned about the relationships between mothers and their sons. Jared had many passions in life, the most of which was his love for God. He was a devout Catholic, who believed in the salvation offered by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His home was full of collected images, trinkets, and memorabilia dedicated to his faith. He would preach to all willing to listen, about the ways his relationship with God had empowered him and provided guidance in his actions. We are confident his beliefs have led him to be seated with his Lord in the Kingdom of Heaven. Jared was a loyal friend and family member. As a son, he was the pride and joy of his mother, Geraldine. He was there for her at her beck and call, making her final years easier on her. As a big brother to four, he would do anything for his sisters and “Little Broski.” He was a protector, teacher, and a guiding light in their lives. His influence will live on in their everyday actions and interests. As a friend, Jared was there for those he cared about. He was willing to fight tooth and nail to protect his friends from any and all hardships. He was a thoughtful giver, often buying or giving away valuable items to bring joy to those he loved. He fostered many close friendships that lasted decades, built by the mutual love and respect his character demanded. Jared had many other passions and interests, that include but are not limited to: The New York Yankees, The Oakland Raiders, Heavy Metal, Dungeons and Dragons, Fantasy Books, Tinkering, and Collecting valuables. Jared is survived by his father Danny Medina (Martha); stepfather Mike Patterson; sister Jessica Guzman (Mark Anthony); brother Michael Patterson (Diana); two nieces he considered his greatest blessing, Natalie and Hailey Patterson; sister Melissa Ramirez (Antonio); nephew Antonio & niece Karyna; sister Suzann Ochoa (Gume); nephew Brody, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his most loyal best friend Nona. He is preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Patterson; maternal grandparents Jerry and Esmeralda Ostic and paternal grandparents Smiley and Jessie Medina. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be celebrated at 1:30 PM Monday April 4, 2022 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street followed by the Memorial Mass. Inurnment of cremains will take place a later date. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapel of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory, 300 E. Boutz Road, 527-2222. Jared, thank you for being you. Unwavering and fantastic. Self-assured and full of fire for life. You are a gentleman and a rogue. A raconteur, capable of commanding a room with a story. You are my brother and the number of "firsts" we shared together forever altered my life! I love you primo. You may be gone, but you will go nowhere. You continue on in all our hearts. Rest well, as I cannot share this first with you.

My condolences to Jared's family and close friends. He was a great friend. I've known him since high school introduced to me by his cousin Raul "Gordie" Uribe. We may have not seen each other every day but every time I did see him he was always full of life and eager to talk about all topics especially music and poetry. We all lost a great spirit.
