Jason Gregory Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2025.
St. Petersburg - Jason was a much-loved husband, father, brother, and friend. He was a few weeks short of 56 years of age when he passed on February 4, 2025. He was a native of the Nashville, Tennessee area. He died while in the ICU after an ER visit in a local hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. He had moved about a year ago after lifesaving surgery down to Florida as planned. He had been ill off and on for several years and had been fighting complications from his many medical conditions.

He became a US Army serviceman right after high school and attained the rank of Sergent, with an honorable discharge. He was in the 187th Infantry as a Rakkasan and 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell. He served in many countries overseas. He graduated from college at WKU. He was an accomplished musician from a young age playing drums for years, teaching himself to play guitar and most recently the slide with guitar. He was in several bands that were well known over the years. He also wrote songs and toured with some well-known artists. He was a mentor to many musicians and those coming through the Bar that he once co-owned in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He transitioned from musician and life on the road to one of serving Veterans in the TVHS VA Hospital in Nashville in the Business Office and then in the Audiology Service. He was with the VA for more than 13 years. He loved helping and working with Veterans.

He was a golfer, though he would say not that good a player, but an excellent teacher to many. He bowled and loved to go to the beach and just relax when he was not playing his guitars. He had recently begun an on-line master's degree in Christian Ministry and wanted to become a Chaplain for the VA or other healthcare facilities. He was always posting on his page his music videos and some commentaries. He was a private man, yet quietly served and gave of himself and time to help others and many were unaware of as he was a private person, though outgoing and occasionally irreverent.

He is survived by his wife and best friend who he met in the VA in Nashville in 2021, Debra Pease; sons Nathan Gregory and Taylor King; his Sister Shonda Walker and Lynette Gregory; along with various cousins, nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his parents R.L. and Marsha Gregory and grandparents Leon and Ethel Gregory. He will be missed by many friends, and his influence will carry on in those he loved and helped. The family and friends were deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.

He and Debra attended Calvary Chapel near their home which was on the 15th T Box at a local golf course. He learned through his many trials to have an unwavering faith despite all his medical conditions and other ordeals in life. He accomplished many of his bucket list items while in the St. Petersburg area. He is home with the Lord whom he loved and is no longer suffering.
