It's a shock to look someone up that you haven't spoke to in several years to find them gone. When I moved to Cleveland, Jason took me under his wing, and we had some absolutely unforgettable nights. He was always so generous with the people around him, and had a love for what he was doing, which isn't to be taken lightly. He will be missed by many admirers. I remember the signed Jeff Buckley picture he had in his office in Independence that read "It's true what they say about me, I am the devil." I'm sure they're drinking wine and reminiscing about that night.

The Gula Family:

My heartfelt condolences and sympathy for your loss. As I sit here staring at this entry, I am utterly stunned by this unbelievable news. I once was and considered Jason one of my very best friends. What a guy. We grew up together, played basketball together, worked together at Camelot, you name it. We were just kids enjoying life. Like most people from that earlier time in our lives I just lost touch. Regretting today now more than ever that I did. I apologize that this is coming so late, but man he was the best. Loved that old Monte Carlo. I, like Mike Dunn, remember the countless pickup basketball games. He will be greatly missed as is obvious by all the people who are signing this guestbook. I now realize how precious life is.

Again my condolences.

Jason was an amazing person but an even better friend. during my early years at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum he brought amazing shows and events here because of me and made me look like a total rock star because of it. he also introduced me to my favorite band today and I will never forget him for that but even more so for his generous ways and great attitude. my deepest condolences to his family - he was loved and treasured by so many.

Jason helped hire me as the Sony Music college rep in 1997. He was my boss for a few years, peer for another 8 and always the best of friends. You always knew he was in this business for the right reason... the music. I spoke to Jason on June 5th and he was still following the dream: getting ready to move to Denver and jumpstart his label with friends. We will miss you Gula Shaker!!! Thanks for always being there to guide us. We love you...

My deepest condolences to the Gula family. I've known Jason for almost 10 years where we eventually worked together at SonyBMG. Even when we worked for competing companies he was always willing to help brainstorm ideas and find ways to make whatever we were doing better. I will always look up to the man who strove to be the best he could be.

I worked with Jason for many years at Sony, and I still can't believe this news. He was always my musical hero - I'd look to him for marketing ideas, advice, and just to find out what he was listening to! He even sent me music after I left Sony becuase he knew I would enjoy it. How cool was that? He had such a positive attitude, zest for life, and I would always look forward to being around him. You are missed Jason...by friends, coworkers, bands, venues and record stores, everywhere.

Jason was one of the finest men I have ever known or hope to ever know. He was a good friend who always could take me from a point of feeling down or confused & by the end of our conversation have me with my head up & full of confidence.
I am a better person for having known him and will dearly miss him.
They don't get much better than Jason.

I barely had meet Jason - through Lisa, my sister in law. I cannot believe he is gone - I was looking forward to him being in Colorado with all of us. What a spirit. What a warm, funny and loving man. I am devastated for his family - he will be missed by all.

Like so many others, I first met Jason at a record store. I was in high school at the time still making some important decisions about what to do with my life post-graduation. I kept in touch with Jason through my Junior and Senior years of high school and soon made the decision to also work in the music industry. I even found a college program dedicated to it and started making plans to move to Chicago - all thanks to Jason. When Jason called me one day to tell me he thought he had a job for me in the Cleveland area, I nearly threw out all my plans! Thinking twice and calling him back, I said 'Y'know what, I'm moving to Chicago!' It wasn't a week later that I received the most exciting email - that Jason was moving there too! We moved from Cleveland to Chicago within months of each other and just a few months into college, I was working under Jason for Sony. For the next couple of years, we shared some unforgettable experiences. Jason was a friend that always wanted to make sure that everything's okay - and just seemed to knew when things were not. I'll never forget his smiling face, his generosity, and the way he changed my life. Thank you Jason!! For all you have been to me and all that you are. You'll truly be missed.

Mr. and Mrs. Gula and Jen,
I am truly sorry for your loss of Jason. Although Jason and I haven't kept in touch very much in recent years, I still consider him one of my best friends and I'll sorely miss him. No matter how much time elapsed, we could catch up quickly like we never missed a beat.
After reading all of these glowing entries I quickly realized that Jason has had a huge impact on so many people, including myself, it's amazing. From the countless pickup basketball games over the years, to rooming together on our Senior trip, to getting in a fender bender on our way to the MC Hammer concert, to hanging out at Camelot Music, to having a couple of beers at Metropol on a Friday night, we ALWAYS had a good time. God rest his soul.

I was stunned and devastated to learn this morning of the untimely passing of Jason. Jason was an amazing colleauge and a better friend. He was the most loyal and generous person I have ever met. Anyone who was part of his life was a better person for it, and I consider myself blessed to have known him. My heart goes out to his entire family. I will never forget you, J Gula.

To the family and friends of Jason Gula...
deepest sympathies from Dawn, Ron, Billy and the rest of the Electric Fetus gang that worked with Jason during his Chicago tenure at SonyBMG. He was a hard worker and a super nice guy to have call on us. We missed him when he left Sony, and are all shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.

My deepest condolences. Jason was unlike anyone else in the music business. He always found time to work with us when most wouldn't think it worth their time. The Iron Maiden and Tori Amos promotions he did with us are legendary here in Detroit. The Travis dinner at Pine Knob and our dinner before going to a Tori Amos show in Cleveland are treasured memories. We'll miss you Jason.

I met Jason back around 2003 when I was an intern at Sony Music based out of Chicago. I was eventually offered the prestigious mailroom position at the branch and saw Jason on a daily basis. We quickly became buddies and would chat about random crap all day long (both work related and not so work related). There were several times when the guy really went out of his way to look after me and provide me with valuable advice. The past couple of days I've been thinking back to the several enjoyable memories I have of Jason. I can honestly say that I have never met anyone like Jason. Honestly. He was one of the nicest, most sincere, inspiring individuals I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I thank God for allowing him to be a part of my life.

My heart goes out to the Gula family. You are in my prayers.

Rest In Peace, my friend.

I have been lucky enough to have Jason in my life for almost 10 years, during which he had become one of my closest friends. He has been many things to me – friend, partner in crime, boss, mentor, rock, support, safety net…you name it he did it. He has been there through every major milestone and has left a large impact on my life. I owe much of my happiness and success, both personally and professionally, to him. He gave me my first job at Sony and helped me become the person I am today. He is truly amazing and will live on forever in my heart.

My condolences to the Gula family. Thank-you for your kindness and hospitality towards myself and all of Jason's friends present today. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jennifer,

I just learned about Jason's passing and I'm truly sad for you and your family. I remember over the years talking about Jason's success and how proud you were of your brother and how very special he was to everyone. My sympathy to you and your family and I will keep all of you in my prayers.

I just wanted to pass along my condolences. Jason was an amazing person / friend / music fan / promotions genius. Any thought I have of him is of a smiling, energetic person passionate about music and life. And that is how I will always remember him. It was always great seeing him at the countless Stabbing Westward, Toad The Wet Sprocket and, of course, Our Lady Peace shows I attended through the years. Just last night I dug out my "OLP at the Rock Hall" VHS tape and there is a split-second show of Jason and I standing off to the side. It made me think "I wonder how Gula is...". The coincidental news I received about him wasn't what I wanted to hear.

It was always fun working on promotions with him. Good Charlotte and Juliana Theory at the Rock Hall both being a true testament to Jason's passion for music and great promotions.

He will be missed.

I was truly devastated when I heard the news of Jason’s passing while I was traveling this week. As a testament to the number of lives that Jason touched, my phone was lighting up all week as people were calling me to tell me the sad news. I have known Jason for a long time and while our relationship began as a professional one (I was in retail and he was my rep), it quickly became one of great friendship. I admired his work ethic, his love of music and his passion for life. He inspired me in so many ways while he was with us and he will continue to inspire me from this day forward. His passing puts so many things into perspective and makes one realize how important it is to cherish ever moment that we have in this world. I love you and I will miss you Jason.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I still remember my first meeting with Jason (back in 1989), then hiring him for Camelot Music. Jason made me look smart with that move! As an "employee" and more importantly a friend, he had my back more than once and I will forever be grateful. My thoughts and prayers are with the Gula family and everyone that was touched by Jason.

Dear Gula Family -
My thoughts are with you in your time of loss. Like so many who have signed this guest book before me, I also worked with Jason 'back in the day' at Camelot. He was a very important person in my life, one of the nicest and most caring people I have ever met. He also introduced me to my husband many years ago. Although we had not been in contact on a regular basis, I always knew what he was up to through his friendship with my brother in law. There are so many times I have thought about him over the years and everything that reminds me of Jason always brings a smile to my face.
Jason you will forever be missed and never forgotten.

I worked with Jason for about 7 years at Sony (closely for about 2 of those years) and was always impressed by his boundless energy and easy way. He was the kind of guy who could have a comfortable conversation with absolutely anyone. Truly a rare person who will be deeply missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Jason at Camelot so many years ago. He was a truly good guy, always quick with a smile and a joke. Even after all these years, I can still remember his smile and hear his laugh as if it was yesterday. My deepest sympathy and prayers are with the Gula family.

I just met Jason this year, at one of Lisa Genee's shows. I painted for Lisa that night. Jason kept coming up to me and my husband and talked to us throughout the night. That was back in May. Since then we had been in communication about getting together, getting to know each other, me painting for Lisa - he, she and my husband and I were going to get together. I did notknow him well, but knew by his eyes he was a special sweet and genuine person. I am sad that we did not get to know him like many of you had. Please know we will miss him.

Jason and I were both high school and college buddies. The times that we shared during this time will never be forgotten. I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing and he will be missed. Jason had a unique personality and a gift of constant giving and never taking. This gift came natural to him and is one that unfortunately is all too uncommon in our world today. To say that Jason played a crucial part of who I am today is a huge understatement. In many ways, Jason was part of the reason I am in New England today (moved for Sony), have a million and one great stories to tell and have the work ethic I do today. I think that anyone who was graced with Jason's presence will have a soft, warming story to tell. He was the one to pick you up when you were feeling down, give you $5 when you didn't have it and always make sure that your day was a good one when maybe his wasn't going so well. Jason was a truly special person. Thanks for everything JG..you will never be forgotten. Wherever you are headed, may a bottle of Chimay be waiting for you..on my tab!
