Jason Raymer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 30, 2025.
With hearts full of love and sorrow, we regretfully share the untimely passing of Jason Scott Raymer, a brilliant, kind, and unforgettable man who left this world far too soon.

Jason delighted everyone he met with his quick wit, deep knowledge of endless topics, and his quiet (yet potent) sense of humor. He could make us grin with a simple but hearty "howbadoobin" or funny gesture. His silly, infectious giggle never failed to make everyone grin and his mind never stopped exploring new facts, concepts, and knowledge. Whether he was in the classroom teaching, sharing a random fact, or cracking a perfectly timed joke, he made everyone around him feel smarter, lighter, and truly seen.

His undying love of music, golf, and playing pool was matched by his love of learning and teaching both in formal and informal environments. His passion for teaching was always on display with his uncanny ability to spark interest and engagement with his students without making anyone feel less-than.

Though Jason faced challenges and difficulties that were invisible to us all, he faced them stoically until the end. His absence leaves a huge hole in the lives of so many, but memories of all the good times with him fill us with gratitude for every laugh, hug, inside joke (Morning C's), random fact, or particularly fitting song suggestion. Though impossible to capture our gratitude in just a few words, these things made Jason the man we all loved and will all miss terribly.

He was a fiercely loyal and deeply loving husband, father, son, nephew, and friend. Everyone could always count on him for a warm smile, a helping hand, or a riveting conversation - no matter the need, he filled our lives with joy and love that will be deeply missed in his untimely passing.

He is missed greatly and will always be loved by his wife Lara Dolin, daughter Alison Prexta, stepmother Joan Raymer, aunt Vicky Willett, cousins Jeff Willett and Matt Willett, nephew Nate Willett, nieces Madi Willett and Julia Willett, his brothers from other mothers, Marc Miller, Paul Hollenbaugh, and Bill Cole. In addition, he leaves behind his adored feline friend Stewart.

He is preceded in death by his father David Raymer (Joan), mother Karen Foky (Duffy), uncle Jay Nisewarner, and his beloved pup Jaeger.

In honor of Jason, we invite you to make a small donation to a suicide prevention organization of your choice. Or simply do something random and kind for someone, share a laugh, or listen to a favorite song - just as Jason would have done.

Was glad to see this remembrance of Jason. We had only known each other for about six months through the pool league, but immediately became good friends. I believe it´s rare at this stage in life to meet someone who you truly have a connection with and know you´ll be friends for the rest of your life. Unfortunately that friendship was cut way too short. Jason and I would talk about music, concerts we´d been to, sports and reminisce about what it was like be kids in the 80´s. I was always happy to see Jason on league nights and more importantly, I could tell Jason was glad to see me. It´s special when someone is glad you are there. I hope he knows I was very happy to see him and wish I could still see and talk to him today. I´ll miss that big laugh and old Broncos hat!! He asked me once what my favorite song was. That´s a tough question for music lovers and I couldn´t come up with anything specific. Since you´ve been gone I´ve been thinking how I would answer that question if you had the chance to ask me again. After much thought, I´ll go with `Pictures of You´ by The Cure.
Give it listen my friend, I miss you!

I just found out about this and am heartbroken. I'll always remember the fun times we had in the Chuckery at U of A 90-93 playing Euchre.

It´s difficult to put into words how Jason being gone has affected me. If he were here I could easily call and ask how to best put it into words. Jay never changed in all the years I knew him. From the days of playing Mortal Kombat in grandma´s basement to the present. He was always incredibly kind and found the humor in most any situation. I´m sitting here trying to remember his laugh. It was incredibly infectious and made me laugh harder than I thought possible. My world has become smaller without him. I miss him terribly!

In all the world there is no other that can take the place in my heart that Jay held. He was built of compassion, kindness, and love. His laughter was infectious, his smile came easily, and his heart was open. If you lacked these traits, he was willing to teach them through is actions; all you needed to do was watch and listen. What an amazing friend he was. Talented, selfless, and intelligent. We are all poorer for his loss, and we have become less without him in our lives. I will miss him every day.
