Larry James Irish

Larry James Irish -- Age 71, of South Lyon passed away peacefully of May 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

A funeral service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Deacon Ron Kenney will officiate.

Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Wednesday, May 28, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday at 11:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Larry’s memory may contribute to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Larry was born on April 8, 1954, in Flint, Michigan, to Lawrence and Loretta (Multhaupt) Irish. He graduated from Hamady High School in 1972 and soon after began his career with Michigan Bell, which later became AT&T. He retired as a Sales Representative after many years of dedicated service.

He married the love of his life, Debra K. Leedy, in Mansfield, Ohio, on September 15, 1990. Their bond was one of love, friendship, and mutual respect, and it was clear to everyone who knew them how much they meant to each other.

Larry had a deep love for the water and spent countless joyful hours boating around the Northern Michigan lakes and Great Lakes. He enjoyed snowmobiling with friends and family and would find any excuse to ride his tractor around the yard. He also loved traveling and sightseeing, taking in the beauty of new landscapes and exploring the history of our country. Larry had a special place in his heart for dogs and, as he would joke, "certain" cats.

Above all, Larry was a devoted husband, Dad and Papa. He took pride in his family and cherished the time spent with his wife, children, and especially, his grandchildren, Ryan and Jenna. His legacy will live on through the love he gave and the memories he created with those who mattered most.

He leaves behind his wife, Debbie; his children, Kristi (Evan Currie) Van Ittersum Currie and Kevin Irish; and grandchildren, Ryan Van Ittersum and Jenna Van Ittersum. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Dorene) Irish, and many beloved cousins who hold a special place in his heart.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.

 He will be missed more than words can say.
