Javier Jenkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 27 to Dec. 28, 2022.
Javier Jenkins was born June 4, 1960, to Mr. Theodore "Ted" Jenkins and Mrs. Celeste Jenkins in Brooklyn, New York. He was a graduate of Roosevelt Senior High School in Long Island, New York and a proud graduate of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and played flanker and punt returner for the Bulldogs.

Javier accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1978. He was most recently a member of LinkedUp Church in Powder Springs, GA, since the inception of the ministry. Javier was married in holy matrimony to his college sweetheart Gayla Posey on June 26, 1982. Their union was blessed with two awesome sons, DaRonne and Dorien.

Javier had a love for martial arts and reached the level of Master in Ketsugen Karate. He opened Just For Kicks Karate School and served his community as a Sensei for over 23 years. After dedicating years of his life to the study and teaching of Martial Arts, he was inducted into The World Christian Martial Arts Hall of Fame as well as The Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame.

Javier started his career as a statistical analyst at New York Life in New York and later progressed to business unit manager at American Security Group in Atlanta. He gave up his corporate career to follow the Lord's calling to impact the lives of youth. He served the remainder of his career in the field of Christian education in response to this undeniable calling on his life. He began in 1994 as inaugural principal and math teacher at Covenant Christian Ministries Academy where he served 5 years. In 1999 he began a faithful 23-year career at Dominion Christian School wearing many hats which included Dean of Discipline, math teacher, P.E. teacher, and coach. He established both the varsity football and track and field ,programs at Dominion. Javier stands out as the most decorated coach in Dominion's history with numerous championships and coach of the year awards. However, his proudest achievement by far would not be the awards, but the hundreds of souls saved and the countless lives he impacted. The titles that he prized and honored most were husband, dad, and grandpa.

Javier was received into the arms of the Lord on December 6, 2022. He is preceded in death by his father Theodore and his brother Kevin.

He will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 40 years, Gayla; sons, DaRonne (Lesley) and Dorien; his mother Celeste; siblings, Linda, Mignon, Pilar and Ali; grandsons, Taj and Khai; as well as aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and family members.

Javier and all of us kids loved playing tackle football in the snow on an open lot on Grenada Ave in our hometown Roosevelt. He loved the great middle li backer Willie Lanier as he went on to start as the middle linebacker for Roosevelt rough riders high school.
He was a fun loving guy, loved to laugh, and talk sports. RIP my neighborhood friend and brother.

Coach Jenkins was an awesome man of God. Had many great conversations with him at track meets over the last 8 years. Not seeing him, and hearing him open the meet with prayer will be hard to get used to. Praying for the family and the many individuals affected by his promotion to Heaven.
