This is very sad to hear and a great loss to so many who work in the health field or with city government issues in Washington, DC. Jay had a great insight and a fatastic historical memory. Many of us will miss him.

To the Michaud family: I am so sorry. Jay and I were telephone buddies for more than a decade when I worked at the Chicago Department of Human Services. We became good friends over the years. His death brings a shocking end to a relationship that I was sure we would find a way to resume despite my having retired four years ago. Our conversations were bright spots in my work week. Whenever something of consequence happened in the world of politics or government we would check in with each other and trade ideas. And, of course, more personal talk found its way into our calls as we grew to know each other better. Jay was an exemplary colleague, smart, savvy, reliable, supportive, good natured…. He was also an attentive, caring friend. I am just so sad that I will not be able to reconnect with him. I know that losing him must be devastating for you, but it is also terrible for many, many others like me.

Dearest Dr. and Mrs Michaud, John and Janet...

It's Becky DeVaughn, from many years ago but knew Jay so well. I still live in Arlington and whenever I find myself in Jay's neighborhood, I would drive past his house and think about him, wonder how his was doing. I often thought about getting in touch to say hello for old times sake. Now I wish I had stopped or called. I have very fond memories of my years with Jay.
My thoughts are with you.

To the Michaud Family:
My sincerest condolences for your loss and the loss to many of us who admired Jay. I began working with Jay in 1985 at the NYC Washington Office. I learned a lot from my colleagues during the almost five years there but Jay was one of the lobbyists I watched the closest in learning to deal with complicated decionsmaking. He was smart as a whip and as a rookie lobbyist I learned to emulate his style. I moved on to the Chicago Washington Office and recall trying to recruit him to join me there. I succeeded and we spent another 9 years together as colleagues. I learned so much from him. The National Journal has a picture of Jay and I with Mayor Richard Daley and a small caption referencing our moving from NYC to Chicago. I still have it as well as others of our crew. On a more personal note, when I was going thru some tough times in my marriage, I moved into one of his bedrooms and cared for his dogs while he left for one of his famous climbs for a month. He was there for me and when I left we had some good wine and good food (that he cooked). So after working together for 14 years I left for another job and he almost moved there a month before I started but stayed with Chicago instead. Life went on, we didn't stay in touch as much as I would have preferred but was able to see him at our last Chicago reunion. I will miss him and am humbled and honored at having shared parts of our lives as friends and colleagues. Sorry for rambling just thought you should know how special he was. My best wishes.

To the Michaud Family and Jay's many friends:
I worked with Jay in Mayor Daley's DC Office for seven years. There are so many things that will always remind me of him: The Washington Times (we have to know what the opposition is reading, he would say), pile high copies of Congress Daily, great French food and wine, Les Halles restaurant in DC, diving, exotic oversees trips, the quest for great cuisine, black coffee with sweet-n-low, Monday morning meetings at the US Conference of Mayors (where staff routinely included Jay on public health discussions), his love of dogs and so much more.
Thank you to his family for sharing Jay with us. He was a wonderful, big-hearted person and I’m a better person for knowing him.

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Michaud and other members of the family, please accept my deepest sympathy.

I had the pleasure of working with Jay for several years. As a policy staffer for the Chicago Department of Public Health, we got to work on alot of interesting issues together, and I always appreciated his insights, humor and commitment to the less fortunate among us. I'm glad there was also time on some of my occasional trips to DC or his very occasional trips to Chicago for some great meals together! I so enjoyed hearing of his food and travel exploits.

Jay was a good egg, and I will miss him!

Dear Michaud Family,

I worked with Jay in the City of Chicago Washington, D.C. office. He was a compassionate and wonderful person.

Jay made my first few weeks working with the City so much easier. He helped a frighten little Capitol Hill staffer take her first steps toward becoming a lobbyist. I will never forget eveything he taught me.

Jay was also extemely funny. Each day I would look forward to coming to work to hear "Hey T." He made each day a little brighter. He will be missed.

You have my deepest sympathies and will remain in my prayers.

Jay was the best dive buddy ever. We worked together in the mid-1980’s and got our scuba diving certification. Jay was always there when I panicked, ready with a smile and encouraging words. I will miss him.

To Dr and Mrs Michaud,

I want to send my condolences to the Michaud family on Jay's passing.

Many of us in DC are just hearing the sad news through the Post obituary today.

For the many years that we worked together in the Chicago DC office, Jay was a source of expertise, perspective, fun--and always friendship. He was an important part of our staff, and contributed greatly to our success through the years. He was also a constant source of entertaining stories of his world travels from the depths of the Caribbean to the heights (if not quite the summit)of Everest.

Those of us who have worked in this unique corner of the public policy world will always remember Jay as a key member of our small club of city representatives--and as a friend.

Dr. and Mrs. Michaud, I have known Jay since the mid-1980's when we would behave irreverently during Congressional hearings. Our dogs my Chloe and Jay's Ruby and Sparkie, were the best of friends and had frequent sleepovers. I had the pleasure of meeting you both several times at Jay's home. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful, caring man.
