Jay Wertheimer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2022.
Jay W. Wertheimer passed away on September 10, 2022, shortly after his 90th birthday. Jay was the beloved husband of Lois and adored father of Jeanne Bennett (John), Sandra Wertheimer (Jeremy) and Elizabeth Wertheimer (David), along with three grandchildren, Addison, Micaela and Eli. He was a real estate attorney who had his own practice, which is now known as Wertheimer Fredman, LLC, in New York City and White Plains for many years. He and Lois lived in Nantucket in the summer for the past 25 years. Jay grew up in Borough Park, Brooklyn, graduated from Brooklyn College, and then became a naval officer during the Korean War. After the Navy, he went to Columbia Law School. Jay was an avid athlete, loved cooking, the performing arts, literature, and history, was a keen bridge player, and wrote autobiographical stories. With his infectious smile, generous heart, and sharp sense of humor, Jay made friends wherever he went. A dedicated father and husband, he loved his family deeply and always looked out for and cared for family members. He will be sorely missed. Donations in Jay's memory may be made to: Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Boston MedFlight, Nantucket Athenaeum, Congregation Shirat HaYam, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
