Jean Brownhill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 20 to Jan. 24, 2021.
Jean passed away peacefully at home in Boulder, Colorado. She was our much loved mother, grandmother, aunt, great-grandmother and friend. She was born in Los Angeles, California to Marjorie Calista (Young) Brownhill and Raymond Gabriel Brownhill, and was preceded in death by her parents, sister Bette Allene Miller, first-born son Charles Neal McKinnon III, and long-time partner Robert Malcolm Farley. She is survived by daughter Lori Jean McKinnon, son Gregory Jon McKinnon (Mary) and daughter Kimi McKinnon Smith (Steven), former husband Dr. Charles N. McKinnon Jr. (Laure), seven grandchildren, one granddaughter-in-law, one great-granddaughter, and one step great-granddaughter. She is survived as well by her feline companion, Marty, as well as many friends. She worked for a number of years as a medical technologist at the Wardenburg Student Health Center at CU. Some of Jean's favorite times were camping, hiking, mushroom hunting, rock hounding, and travel. She had many wonderful trips to Hawaii over the years to visit with her much loved sister, Bette, before Bette's passing. In her recent years her best times were spent with her many friends met through the senior center playing games and socializing, reading, listening to classical music, and visiting with family. In lieu of flowers, memoriams may be made to either the Sierra Club or the Nature Conservancy, two of her favorite charities. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Thank you for a lovely memorial for Jean. I have known her for about 40 years, first when I moved next door to her and Bob on Martin Drive in Boulder. She graciously invited me on a rafting trip with her friends and
family. This turned out to be the only rafting trip I ever took and as it turned out, I learned a valuable safety tip during that trip which later may have saved my life! I have lived in various Martin Acres locations
over the years and now live around the corner. I have always enjoyed catching up with Jean at annual neighborhood functions, or while walking down the street, with or without our dogs. I will miss seeing her and knowing she is still a mainstay on our block. To her family and friends, I send my sincere condolences. Hers was a life well lived and I am a better person for knowing such a gentle woman.

Jean was the guiding light of our Senior Center Mahjong group. She always made sure that everyone got to play. I enjoyed camping with her and Annie her beloved canine companion. Jean was good fun and a wonderful conversationalist.
