My mom took care of jean in her final minutes. I said goodbye to her. My mom took care of her for about 4 years. Her memorial in 2017 in Seattle took place on the ocean where we spreaded her ashes along the water. The service was beautiful. And her family is the nicest people you can know. Rest in peace

To Jean's family--I just learned of her death in March and wish I had known sooner. Cuanto me pesa! I send you my deep sympathy and affection. What a remarkable woman she was and how very fortunate we were to know her. She and Cliff came often to our Quaker Meeting (Amawalk Monthly Meeting) and we loved them both. May good memories and pride in her great spirit be with you always. In Friendship, y con carino.

Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Butler's family. My husband and I had the honor and the pleasure of meeting her in 2000 at a university writers event. My husband enjoyed getting to know her when they sat together for one of the presentations. I was lucky to spend more time with her and very thankful for the advice she gave me about breaking into the soaps. Because of her book and her encouragement I was able to launch my writer career. I will be forever grateful to Jean Butler for her kindness and her eagerness to share her experiences--a truly special person.

Mrs. Butler lived an extraordinary life. She and her husband overcame a sad and dreadful period in American history. What a successful career . And she had time to raise a family. I pray for Mrs. Butler ,her family and friends. Her story needs to be told in a documentary or play.

I was sad to learn of Ms. Butler's passing. She was a guest of ours on two occasions at the Memphis Film Festival in 2002 and 2007. We celebrated her film career and found her to be a very interesting, accessible and friendly person. Her daughter Emily, who lives in my state of Arkansas, was also there on one occasion. Please express our condolence to her and the rest of Ms. Butler's family. We will post something about her on our festival website and Facebook page.
