Jean Engel Obituary

Published by Duluth News Tribune on Feb. 7, 2008.
Jean Marie Engel, 78, of Moose Lake, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008. Jean was a classic example of The Greatest Generation. She came of age at a time when times were hard. Her love of family and the spirit of giving made Jean who she was. Jean taught us much about the meaning of integrity, resilience and deep devotion. She suffered privately and only occasionally did she share the depth of her inner world, or details of her past; she was so unselfish. Her children and grandchildren were what she lived for and meant everything to her. Now her essence is everywhere, and we are missing her so much. It is the simple and unconditional love in her eyes that we hold most dear. Grief is an intimate paradox of impossible anguish and astonishing gifts. Do not grieve for Jean because she is at peace. Keep the memories and experiences she touched you with and extend them forward. We will miss you Nana! Love always, Papa, Bobby, Connie, Wanda, Tara, Claud, Kevin, Jeff, Jerry, Mike, Patty, Jackie, Hilary, Hailey and Adrienne. CELEBRATION OF LIFE:1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at her daughters restaurant, Doc's Grill in Sturgeon Lake. Memorials are preferred to Juvenile Diabetes Association or The Shriners Children's Hospital. Arrangements are with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home,

Dear Bob, Children & grandchildren:
It has been a while since I have seen Jean but please know that my thoughts & prayers are with you & your family at this time.

Tara, I am so happy that you have been so strong & I know this has not been easy on you.

You have been a wonderful friend to my daughter DonnaRae for so many years. Your friendship has meant so very much to our family while she has been in & out of the hospitals in the last few years.

In the wind we will remember her (Jeans) strength.
In the sun, we will see her smile.
And in the evening stars, we will forever see the twinkle in her eyes.
With our love & hugs to all.
