Jean Hardy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2024.
Jean Mary Hardy, formerly of Atkinson, NH, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024.

She was born on October 1, 1930 in Malden, MA to John Waitkus and Mary (Brandano) Waitkus. The second of 7 children. Jean graduated from Malden Catholic High School.

Jean met Francis Hardy, the love of her life, and they were wed in June of 1951. Moving to Woburn, they began to build a family, being blessed with 4 children, Deborah, Susan, Paul and Diane.

A dedicated and loving wife, mother and homemaker, Jean spent the next few decades focused on her family. Additionally, she offered her time at St. Barbara's Roman Catholic Church as an active member of the Women's Club and teaching C.C.D.

Once the children were out of the house, Jean decided to take some business courses, focusing on bookkeeping, accounting and finance. This training led to several part time positions, culminating in a position as CFO at a local company. She loved her career, and was quite successful.

Jean and Fran were prolific square dancers for many years, belonging to several dance groups. They loved dressing up in their outfits! She also loved to sew, loved music, live theater and travel. In her later years, Jean lived in several locations around the country. Leaving Woburn, Jean and Fran moved to Atkinson, NH, while also spending time in Palm Springs, CA. Following Fran's death, Jean became a "snow bird", splitting her time between NH and Odessa, FL. Jean spent her final year at a senior living facility in Salem, NH. She loved the liveliness and all of the scheduled activities there, making good friends in the process. Making new friends was one of Jean's special gifts. Wherever she went, she always made it a point to seek out others and bring "friends" together.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fran, son Paul, as well as her five sisters and brother. in addition to her children, Jean leaves a legacy of 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 AM at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church, 171 Zion Hill Road, Salem, NH.
