Paul, Mary, Bill and family, It was special to view the pictures in Jean's photo gallery. They spoke of a life well-lived and her love of her family. Howard and I met your parents years ago when we were members at First Baptist. Although we did not see them regularly after we left First Baptist, we did run into them from time to time, and were always blessed by those times. We "ran into" Jean back in November at Spears Y at a volleyball game where Jean was cheering on her granddaughter. We sat together and she caught us up on the past few years. She spoke of her battle with cancer right after losing Dave and the love and support of her family. Most of all she spoke of her love for God and how blessed she had been through it all. She loved each of you and all of her family dearly and caught us up on how God is working in your lives. Jean was such a godly woman and I know that you children have been blessed by having christian parents. We look forward to her memorial service today, because it will certainly be a celebration of a life lived for God. We are so sorry for your loss, but know that God's timing is perfect and he will give you the peace that passes all understanding. Our love and prayers,

Dear Stanfield Family, Your dear mother taught my daughter when she was in second grade at Bessemer School, and she certainly made a special place in our hearts. Her smile was infectious and touched so many lives in her positive way. I always looked forward to my volunteer time in her classroom, because she loved each one of her students, and they knew it. Jean was creative, inventive, and talented, and she demonstrated this in her classroom. Over the years I kept in touch with your mom, and we shared stories about our families. We laughed about the many adventures our children were experiencing, and one could tell how very proud she was of each of you. Your mother was one of the beautiful wonderful people - inside and out. My daughter and I will keep each of you in our prayers. All that have known Jean were given a special gift.

Paul, Mary and Bill please know that my prayers and thoughts are with you and your families. Jean was a remarkable person. She was beautiful on the outside and inside. When I think about my years as an elementary teacher, my fondest memories are working at Bessemer and Brooks and team teaching with Jean. We supported each other professionally and we stayed fit together by walking in the park and sharing healthy recipes. Jean was the wind beneath my wings during those years. I thank God that He shared such a special lady with me. Please know that I am here if you ever need me.

When Jean served as Minister of Education at College Park Baptist Church back in the 60's, she had a profound influence on me as a teenager and offered guidance in my Christian walk. She took the time to invite a young teen to her apartment and share lunch on many occasions. She encouraged many young people to make decisions that would honor God, one was my marrying Julius and sharing his ministry which continues today. We were so happy when she and Dave married. We are both so thankful for this lovely lady and have enjoyed watching her family grow and her influence continue. Our condolences to the family.
