Jeanine Elizabeth Halverson, 72, of
Ramsey, Minnesota, passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday, September 6th, 2025 after bravely fighting cancer for more than five years.
Jeanine was born in Duluth, MN on the 17th of September, 1952 to parents Clarence and Leona Couture. She married Thomas Halverson October 17th, 1970 in Duluth, Minnesota. They were married for fifty-three years and bore three children; Sarah, Melody, and Jonah.
Jeanine is survived by her three children; Sarah Halverson, Melody Anderson (Jim), and Jonah Halverson, her grandchildren; Allysa Renquist (Jon), Zachary Cole, Carter and Wren Anderson, her great grandchild; River Renquist, and her siblings; Jackie Fulton and William Couture (Lorene). She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Halverson, her parents; Clarence and Leona Couture, and her siblings; Robert, Lionel, and Clarence Couture.
During her life, Jeanine was devoted to her faith in God. She was a proud member of both The North Church, and Eagle Brook Church. Giving to others in need came naturally to Jeanine and she not only gave generously to her churches, but to a variety of charities that supported her ideals. She had a lifelong desire to serve others and chose nursing as her career. Over the course of 20+ years she worked in geriatrics and finished her career at Colonial Acres Nursing Home as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Right alongside faith and giving came family for Jeanine. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her and she went to great lengths to both support and foster their success. More so than anything, she enjoyed the time spent with family. Whether it be a holiday dinner, a long-distance call, a jigsaw puzzle, or just a casual visit, Jeanine was at her happiest when surrounded by family, and her little dog Rufus too.
Jeanine loved to be creative; painting, photography, and crochet were among the ways she expressed that creativity. She enjoyed painting scenes of serene ocean waves set against puffy white clouds and similarly, she often photographed nature as a hobby. She especially liked the changing leaves in fall and all the colors that came with them. A road trip in fall was an annual tradition for her and her husband so she could hit the best spots for peak colors to photograph and to enjoy the coziness of Bayfield, Wisconsin on her anniversary. As for crochet, Jeanine enjoyed making simple looking, but elaborately patterned blankets for her grandkids and great grandkids and she put in hours of time to get them just right.
Few things for Jeanine carried through more throughout her life than her commitment to health, nutrition, and skin care. There may not be a more universal memory amongst her children than seeing her exercise regularly. It was highly important to her to maintain a healthy body. She supported this with a lifetime dedication to nutrition that was passed onto her children with disdain as kids, but gratefully as adults. Her skin care routine was maintained for close to 60 years with only slight deviations in products used. It kept her looking far younger than her years even during chemotherapy. It was next to impossible to go to a healthcare appointment without at least one person commenting on how cute she was. That was normal for Jeanine, she always made a point to keep up her appearance, and she never gave up.
Jeanine had an aura. She had a way about her that emanated kindness. There was no purposefulness to it, it was natural and effortless. She was never trying to convince you she was a good, kind, and thoughtful person, it was made clear in everything she did.
