Jeanmerry (Jaye) Peabody Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 26, 2024.
Jeanmerry (Jaye) Peabody (82) passed away April 5, 2024 at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA surrounded by family.

Jaye was born September 29, 1941, in Lewiston, Maine. She was the second child and first daughter of Maxine Thornton Peabody and Ralph O. Peabody. She graduated from Houlton High School and later received her diploma from Central Maine General Hospital Training School in Lewiston, Maine. She resided in Calabasas, California for many years where she was employed in the medical field with a speciality in radiology. Jaye proudly served in the United States Navy from 1979 to 1993, retiring with the rank of Chief Hospital Corpsman. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Walter (Wally) Peabody and Thornton Peabody.

She is survived by two sisters, Marlynn London of New Limerick, ME and Mary Sue (John) Jackson of South Berwick, ME. Having family visit her, whether in Lewiston, New Orleans or California, was always a highlight for Jaye. She made sure to take everyone to all the attractions available, depending on their interests and to eat at her favorite restaurants. When Jaye visited her hometown recently, she enjoyed reminiscing and laughing with family and relishing her favorite Maine seafoods. In addition to her family, Jaye will be sorely missed by her KOA family (Mike, Dee, Chad, Moriah and Mel), her affectionate canine companion, "Sugar" and a multitude of cherished friends from across the United States.

A military service will take place at the time of interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Houlton, Maine.
