Jeanne Pentecost Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 20 to Dec. 21, 2016.
Jeanne Pentecost October 7,1937- December 15, 2016 Denied one last Christmas, her favourite time of the year, Jeanne passed away in the company of family at Vancouver General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by Bruce, her husband of 58 years, daughter Debra (Tim), sons Blake (Karen) and Jeff (Tammy), sister Irene and brother Roland (Betty), grandchildren Jesse, Danielle, Matthew and Sarah, great-grandchild Tyler and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Louise (Jim).

Jeanne was born in Kirkland Lake Ontario and came to the Lower Mainland with Bruce and the children in the early 1960s. Her career in health care began in SFU's medical office, followed by many decades in hospital administration at the Shaughnessy and Richmond hospitals. Following her retirement in 1999, she spent over 3 years in Europe with Bruce while he worked with KPMG.

Among the joys of her life were family, travel, reading, music (particularly Frank Sinatra), Bard on the Beach and the years spent as a volunteer, board member and president of the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation's Volunteer Services Association at the UBC site. One of Jeanne's most often-used phrases was "Can I help you?", and she meant it.

Many thanks to Dr. Tamara Shenkier and the team at the BC Cancer Agency for the compassionate care she received. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in Jeanne's memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 7 at the Celebration Hall, Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser St. Vancouver. To leave condolence messages and share your memories of Jeanne, please visit her memorial page at www.amherstcremations.com

I was so sorry to here about Jeanne's passing. I worked with her at Richmond Hospital and always enjoyed her sense of humour, work ethics and wonderful personality. She left Richmond Hospital to go with her husband to Europe and we all enjoyed her news letters. She will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Jeanne's passing. She was a remarkable and strong woman who inspired many people including myself. I was fortunate to have had her in my life.

I will never forget her kindness and caring and what a wonderful grandmother she was to Matthew. He cared for her so much and feels the loss of her dearly.

I am remembering Jeanne today and always. My heart goes out to Bruce, Blake, Debra, Jeff and all their families during this sad time.

I had the pleasure and good fortune to work with Jeanne in the Health Unit up at SFU early in my career while I was still nursing. She was a kind and gracious lady. She had a beautiful smile and was such a fine role model for young professional women just starting out. Though many years have passed since I last spoke to Jeanne, I have always remembered her with fondness...and, I must admit, with some envy, for she had perhaps the most beautiful hair that I have ever seen. May you shine brightly in Heaven, my friend!
