Jeanne Watson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 21 to Sep. 22, 2007.
WATSON _ Jeanne December 12, 1918 - September 16, 2007 Jeanne Watson passed away in Calgary on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Jeanne will be fondly remembered by her son Doug (Sandy), her daughter Susan (Rick) and her grandchildren, Brett Watson, Cameron Luft, Rob Watson (Angela), Grant Watson (Sandra), Barbara Luft (Alex) and Alana Luft (Davor). She recently had the pleasure of welcoming her great-grandson, Mateo Jordan Barcan into the world. She is remembered with fondness by Peg Watson of Dauphin, Manitoba. Her family in, and from England, including brothers John and Tony (Carol) and sisters Stephanie and Jill, will miss Jeanne. She always valued visits, letters and phone calls from her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeanne was predeceased by her grandson, Glenn Watson, in July 2007. Born in England, Jeanne came to Canada in 1945, with young Doug. She had married a Canadian soldier, James B. Watson, in 1941. They went to Jim's family home in Dauphin to await his return. The family settled in Winnipeg, where Jeanne made life-long friends. Jeanne and her family later moved to Edmonton and then to Calgary. Jeanne and Jim were married for twenty-eight years. Bert Foster has been a long-time friend and companion, and with him, Jeanne enjoyed many years with good friends at the Kensington Legion, the Canadian Naval Veterans Association and more recently, the Chapelhow branch of the Legion. She was happiest when she was busy, and when involved in people oriented activities. Jeanne was pleased to be a member of the Alberta War Brides Association. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Legion, which included fund-raising, decorating for special occasions and helping with the annual children's Christmas party. She loved the dinners and she loved to dance. Jeanne also loved animals, nature, and had a passion for gardening. She enjoyed baking for her family - her specialty being shortbread. Over the years, she was employed outside the home, and in anything she did she took pride in "a job well-done". Jeanne remained active, enjoying her independence and all life had to offer, until recently. Our family is grateful for the support we received from the dedicated staff of the Foothills, Peter Lougheed Centre, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Palliative Home Care and the Agape Hospice. A Memorial Reception will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Agape Hospice, 1302 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 1B8 or the charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.mem.com . FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM. Phone: 297-0888. We have been friends for a number of years. Ethel worked with Jeanne (Zellers). We will miss the smile of this cheerful, vivacious lady.
