Jeannine Driskell Miller Hawkins died September 18, 2009, at her home amongst the mountains of Midway, Utah, surrounded by her three devoted daughters and sister. Jeannine learned of her metastatic cancer on April 21, 2009. Once diagnosed, Jeannine provided her family and many friends with frequent laughter, extraordinary love, guidance and support as she gracefully prepared for her final journey. A devout Episcopalian, Jeannine had enormous faith and courage as she faced head-on her final challenge.

Born on August 8, 1937 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to Jerrald Dean Driskell (of Wilson, WY) and Iris Bell Carlson Driskell (of Kelly, WY), Jeannine spent much of her childhood outdoors enjoying the mountains, lakes and streams. Jeannine was a beautiful and accomplished skier qualifying as a member of the Junior and Senior National Ski Teams and the United States Ski Team. She went on to coach her daughters' ski team as they entered competition. Jeannine graduated from Jackson Hole High School as salutatorian in 1955. She was provided two scholarships, one to Middlebury College in Vermont and the second to the University of Wyoming. She happily chose instead to become the wife of Joe Miller and mother to their three daughters. Her husband's National Park Service career provided her the opportunity to maintain her enthusiasm and teach her children to enjoy the outdoors and nature. Supporting her husband also allowed her the social outlet to entertain, which she excelled at and so greatly enjoyed. Jeannine also thrilled in the adventure of moving with her family to a beautiful variety of national parks throughout our nation, making new friends, dabbling in the antique business and discovering the jewels that lie in each area she lived.

Jeannine returned to Jackson in 1977, where she started her second life phase. She began her professional career working in two private practices as a legal secretary. In November, 1982 Jeannine married Michael Hawkins who introduced her to the sport of golf which remained a passion of hers until her final days. She and Mike also enjoyed boating on Jackson Lake and traveling together. In 1996, she was elected the Clerk of District Court for Teton County, Wyoming. Jeannine was the president of the Jackson Hole Hospital Auxiliary and was an active member of the congregation of St. John's Episcopal Church serving on the vestry for many years.

In June 2006, Jeannine retired, and in November moved to Midway, Utah, to begin her final phase and to be close to her family, most especially Eve, her great granddaughter and light of her life. She loved living in Midway as it reminded her of Jackson Hole in the old days. She became an active member in the congregation of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Park City, Utah, joined the local golf league, and spent quality time with her daughters, family and friends.

Jeannine made new friends daily throughout her life and therefore leaves many with her memory. She also leaves her mother Iris Driskell (age 92), her sister Glenda Brownlee (Tom), sister-in-law Janice Driskell, daughters Carol Morgan (David Pelton), Cheryl Neuenschwander (Kirk), Cathy Miller, granddaughters Amy Harris and her daughter Eve, Sarah Scherzinger (Travis) and her grandson Ben Asherman. Jeannine is preceded in death by her father Dean Driskell, brother, Stan Driskell and husband, Mike Hawkins.

Jeannine's zest for life, helping others and her adventurous, creative and humorous spirit will be missed.

Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church,
4595 N. Silver Springs Dr., Park City, Utah, on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. An additional memorial service will be held in Jackson, Wyoming on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. Arrangements in care of Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home. sincerely sorry to hear about Jeannine, and all of our family are sorry for your loss. Jeannine and Adele Doughty were the two that helped me learn to ski on Snow King Mountain in Jackson about 60 years ago. She was alway so pleasant to all us little kids, and I will never forget that. She and her brother, Stan, and my old friend, Glenda were always friends of our family. I hope you, Iris, and take some confort in knowing Jeannine was one of the best. I worked under Jeannine as a deputy clerk for 6 years, and I will miss her greatly. Luckily, I was also considered a personal friend and enjoyed keeping in contact with her during the last years of her life. She always had a smile on her face and was fun to be with, and she made the best Russian Cream with fresh raspberries in the whole world!

We can't believe she's not here. We will miss her and think about her everyday. We know she wanted to be here when we have our baby, but we like to think that she actually gets to meet her before we do! We love you so much Neenie.
