To my baby girl:

It seems just yesterday that I held you in my arms and welcomed you to the world with a kiss. I was and am so proud to be your mom. I have cherished every moment with you...my daughter and my best friend.

I should not be surprised knowing you as I do, that you have touched the hearts of so many people..both young and old...but yet, I am truly astounded by the sheer numbers of those who knew you, loved you and have said you had a positive influence on their lives. I could not be more proud. What is even more overwhelming for me as your mother is that you have done it all with such grace and humility...always being there for others even when the effort was so great with your daily struggles and pain.

As I stood beside you at the funeral home, I was aware of your beautiful and abiding spirit, it was all around you, living still in those you touched. I know some day that Anthony and Alexandra will come to understand the strength of character, your sense of humor, the joy for living and the strong value system you left as a part of them. I am only sorry that they did not have more time with you...or for that matter, that I did not...46 years with you was not enough. They seem to have flown by with just a blink of an eye.

I will miss talking with you every day and have thought of so many things I wanted to share even in the last week...perhaps you know what I wanted to say anyway...perhaps you are still watching over me and the others that you loved, making sure we are o.k.

Ron used to tell us that Buddists believe that people are put on this earth to teach so many lessons and to learn just as many.... and until you have learned all there is to know in the universe...you come back again and again in another form....wide eyed and eager for lessons to begin. I like to think that is true and that you will return, cancer free, to take in what awaits you.

Before I left you at the funeral home, I talked with you, touched your hand and kissed your forehead one last time my baby girl, to let you know your were loved...you are loved...you are loved. I miss you.....MOM.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To the most sincere, compassionate and good hearted person I have ever known, thank you for allowing me the privilege of being your friend. I am so proud of you, you did such a good job. You have so much more to give and I could not ask for a better surrogate mom for my MJP. The world needs more people like you. RIP Jeannine 5.24.08 & MJP 7.23.06 Hug & Kisses Sweetie !

My family and I were so sorry to hear that Jeannine had not won her long and hard-fought battle against breast cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. Alex and Anthony, please know that I think I am a better person for having known your mom. She was the kind of person who could make a real difference in the lives of the people who surrounded her.
