Jeffrey Cichon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2016.
Jeffrey Peter Cichon, MD, passed away at home on March 30, 2016 after a heartily fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 35 years, Vicki Lynn, and his children Jamie, Danielle and Nickolas. Jeffrey was born on January 31, 1954 in Passaic, New Jersey to a Russian Orthodox family. An accomplished and respected orthopedic surgeon in active practice in Las Vegas since 1984, Jeff graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Louis University in three years with a BA in chemistry. His academic career continued at Washington University School of Medicine where he met a sassy young nursing student, Vicki, who quickly became the love of his life. Jeff and Vicki moved to Los Angeles where he completed his residency at LA County University of Southern California Medical Center. Together, they moved to Las Vegas in 1984. Jeffrey was an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine as well as Adjunct Professor at Touro University. He trained and mentored many students who carried forward his academic legacy and commitment to treating patients not just with expert care, but with respect and compassion. Jeffrey also gave selflessly to the community. He served on the Clark County Medical Society Board from 1995 - 2005 and held the office of President from 1999 - 2000. Jeff was also a loyal and generous supporter of The Clark County Medical Alliance, the Junior League of Las Vegas and the National Charity League. Those who knew Jeff knew that he was the happiest when sharing his love of history, especially the civil war, as well as his knowledge of theology, firearms and music mixed in with obscure bits of trivia. Jeffrey is also survived by his brother John Cichon, DMD, Pennsylvania; sister Janelyn Wise, Massachusetts; and his mother, Helen Cichon, Massachusetts. Jeffrey was cremated. His Memorial Service will be held May 14, 1:30 at Palm Mortuary, 7600 Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank all of the patients, colleagues, friends and family for their prayers and outpouring of love during the past 15 months, what a wonderful testament to a man who gave so much to our community.Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.

Vicki, I am so very sorry to find out (now) of Jeffs passing. Clifton NJ was a long, long time ago. Jeff and I graduated Class of 72; we marched with the Mustang Band and sang our hearts out for FAJ in the Concert Choir. He was a great, supportive friend during those tumultuous years from Woodrow Wilson Junior High through Clifton High. Please know that even at this late date my heart and thoughts are with you. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Cichon. I was seen over many years in his office and he did both of my knees and my son's hand surgery. I did not trust anyone else or feel comfortable with anyone else as Doc knew exactly what he was doing and how to fix it. The tremendous kindness, compassion, and attention that you received when you were in his office was second to none and that will never be duplicated. I now feel lost knowing he is no longer here as do all his patients I am sure. But I am comforted knowing his suffering is over and he now has his wings. My sincere condolences to you Vicki and family he will be missed like no other!

You treated my sons football injury, my eldest sons attempt to fly when he was 5 and my daughter's broken femur while skateboarding. All over about 20 years. I will be forever grateful for not just your expertise but your caring manner. My daughter sobbed when she heard of your passing and I was deeply saddened. I pray this season for your family will be filled with warmest thoughts of a man who touched his community and is sorely missed! God bless you you and your family.

So saddened to discover this news. Went searching for his expertise again and am now feeling lost. Jeffrey and entire office welcomed and treated me and my rare leg condition about 13 years ago with complete open arms for this I am forever grateful. He will not be forgotten. Dr. Cichon, you left us much too soon. May your special soul continue to rest in peace.

I didn't realize that this was still open until I received an email that someone posted in it. A year has passed. I received a phone call when I got out of my job interview with DOC that you had gone to be with the Lord. I celebrated my one year anniversary 2 weeks ago. I think of you often Doc! We were all so close. Being in a larger practice you just don't get real close. You don't know everyone's deep and dirty secrets. It's funny to me now to look back and realized we all knew way too much about each other. We should've done a sitcom. The people that came in and out of our office and us crazy people that worked there. The Cichon family smack in the middle of it all. Vicki you should write a book. Just change the names to protect the innocent. See you again one day Doc. Have you met Elvis yet? Lots of love to you all.

I am so sad to hear the passing of Dr. Cichon he has been a fixture in my family's life since I was seven or eight. Myself and all my immediate family has seen him, my father an accident prone man unfortunately has had several severe accidents and started the train for Dr. Cichon being there for all of us over the years. I will always cherish the memories of days going to his office, even though those memories often were hard they always seemed a lot brighter knowing that my father, myself, my younger sister and mother (in order of our accidents), were always in such great hands. Thank you Dr. Cichon, rest in peace.

A sad time to find that the Doctor has passed. He was a great surgeon and did wonders for my shoulder. Now seeking his expertise again and feeling everyone's loss. He is missed.

I'll always remember what a great surgeon he was to my husbands shoulder. He fixed it so perfect and then after he fell down one year later and broke it all apart Dr. Cichon redid it perfectly. As we came to the office and you were returning from lunch he was such a gentleman to carry that big pink purse of yours in the office as we drove by and I whistled hey doc you need pink shoes to go with that purse. He was so good natured and we laughed quite awhile.

I am so sad to hear of his passing! I've known Dr. Cichon almost my whole life. He treated several members of my family, notably my grandmother Verna and my Aunt (who also did his hair) Billie Jean. I couldn't think of a better doctor and a wonderful person! What a great life he lead and he helped so many people. Even me on occasion :) He will be missed but plenty of good memories to be had! <3 Trisha

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Cichon's family. He always made my visits to the office very pleasant. He was my true hero when I fell and needed emergency surgery. We spent a year following up on that injury and I thank God that he was there for me every time that I needed his expertise. I now realize why I felt such a kinship to him. He passed away from the same notorious illness as my mom. I know they are both in heaven sharing many thoughts about music. I also feel a closeness that his mother and I share the same name. He truly is someone that I will never forget. I thank God that he was in my life.

Vicki:
Diana and I and our kids are very sorry for your loss. Jeff was such a warm, comforting, competent and ethical physician. He operated on our daughter Betty at a young age, treated Diana for years, and recently treated daughter Addie. As you know we worked together on a couple matters business wise. I always loved seeing and talking to Jeff. Diana and I were out of town when the service was held and I am very sorry to have missed the tribute. Dear Vicki and family:
We are more than saddened to hear of Dr. Cichon's passing. He was always so kind and considerate. He took the time to explain in non-medical terms exactly what we could expect from my surgeries. He was conservative and his expertise got me thru some otherwise very painful times. Oona, David, Lisa and the entire staff were so professional and caring. May God give you all strength during this sad time. Our prayers are with you.

Dr. Jeffrey Cichon saved my life as a 16 year old man my Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis kept me from walking properly, having to go to school with a cane or be on homebound therapy, he replaced both my hips in 1987 and within two months I was walking under my own power. He allowed me the freedom to enjoy my senior year in high school and every year afterwards. I have always kept Dr. Cichon in my prayers because he was a brilliant surgeon and has always been a better man, filled with love and compassion for his patients. I am proud to have known Dr. Cichon but I am a better man because if his ability to work on the human body. I am happy to say that the surgery of replacing both hips happened in 1987 and 29 years later they still work and I am still able to walk on my own. Thank you for being part of my life Dr. Cichon and I plan to donate money in your name to transplant surgery in his name. God bless your soul and the family you left here on earth, I pray they will know and appreciate the importance of your work and what you were able to accomplish for so many people. Love Anthony J.
