I first got to know Jeff while at Mariner HS. He wasn't a close friend at the time, but we were friendly with each other. One recollection I have from that time: he had started to wear hard contact lens and told us he had decided to keep them on instead of taking them out at night. That apparently was OK for a short time, but after awhile he got an eye infection. The story stuck with me enough so that when I later got soft contacts of my own, I made sure that I took them out every day, even when I was very tired. Jeff may have saved me from an eye infection of my own.
While on my church mission in Germany, my Dad wrote and told me about "my high school friend" Jeff taking the missionary lessons and joining the church. I had made some limited efforts to share the gospel with several high school friends but Jeff was not one of them. I would not have predicted that Jeff would have been the high school aquaintence of mine that joined the church, especially because I didn't feel that I was a great example of a good church member while I was in high school. I was generally a good teenager and believed in the church, but I didn't always live up to that in every way while in high school.
Fortunately, my choice to go on a mission helped me live more in step with my beliefs. I rejoiced in Jeff becoming a member, and when I returned from my mission, I was assigned to be Jeff's home teaching companion, and came to know Jeff much better, and always admired his simple desire to do good and be better in his life, which had led to his conversion.
I went off to college at BYU but continued to enjoy hearing about Jeff and his activity and marriage in the church, as well as his brother Bill having similar experiences.
My Dad got to know both Jeff (and Kim) and Bill even better than me and stayed close to them for many years. He passed on several years ago, but I'm confident he welcomed Jeff as he passed to the other side of the veil.

Kim, you know how much i have always loved you, Jeff, and the kids. Not only was Jeff my older brother, he also was my best friend. He had always had a heart of gold and would think of others before himself. He has been my rock and inspiration throughout my life. He is the only person out of my whole family who understood my brain injury and accepted me in spite of it. Never once throughout our lives did he forget to wish me a happy birthday and a merry Christmas. This goes back to our childhood years and he never gave up on me when others did. Whether it was calling me or texting me and asking me to go out for my birthday. He was a great father and husband to his family. Jeff, i will never forget you and know that you are in a great place with Mikey and our Father in heaven. I love you and miss you.
