Jeffrey Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2024.
New Albany - Jeffrey Allen Martin, 58, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on November 25, 2024.

Jeff was born and raised in New Albany, where he and was active in many youth sports; as a teenager he moved to Louisville and attended St. Xavier High School before transferring to Providence High School where he graduated and remained close with his schoolmates. He attended the University of Louisville, where he was a student manager for the U of L championship teams in the early 1980's. He later moved to Houston, Texas where he met his wife, Jennifer.

He would return to New Albany with his wife where they raised their family. He worked at Samtec as a Quality Engineer and frequently expressed his gratitude for his work with colleagues that were also friends. He continued to support Providence High School sports, and felt privileged to participate as an assistant coach for the Freshman boys' basketball team. He was a loving, devoted husband to his wife of 30 years and a proud father to their daughters, Daniela Martin and Laura Rincon. His family was the center of his world, and his gentleness, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

In addition Jeff is survived by his father, Terry Martin (Carol), his sister, Julie Voyles (Mitch), stepbrothers Rob (Michelle), Greg (Mandy) and Jeff Gentile and his niece and nephew, Maggie and Owen Voyles. He was preceded in death by his mother Dianne Gentile and stepfather Mike Gentile.

Jeff had a passion for University of Louisville sports, golf, and was an avid fantasy football enthusiast. He was a true lover of all sports whether playing, watching, or discussing games. His connection to nature and his love for animals were equally significant parts of his life, and he was often found feeding and caring for animals.

A private memorial service will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Albany Animal Shelter and the Floyd County Humane Society of Indiana in Jeff's honor.

I worked with Jeff for only a few months as an intern at Samtec. He was very friendly and help me a lot in those few months. Even though I haven't met him since then, I have thought about him often over the last 12 years.

It has been many years since I last saw Jeff, but I think of him often...Like at a U of L basketball game, remembering the times he got me on the bench and in the locker room with the 86' Championship team..and whenever I play billiards (every day) and the pool table we played on at his parents house...Thank you Jeff....Rest in Peace....Prayers to Julie and the rest of your family.

I spent many years working with Jeff at SAMTEC. I felt he was a kindred spirit. My heart is saddened to hear he has left this world. He was a fine friend!

Man, I am going to miss this guy! He always had a smile, big laugh, and a bear hug for you. I will never forget all the memories and fun we had on our multiple road trips to LSU football games and to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I love ya, brother! Rest In Peace and go Dolphins.
