JEFFREY MAY Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Aug. 3, 2016.
JEFFREY GORDON MAY
With great sadness, we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of Jeff May on July 28, 2016 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 67. Jeff was predeceased by his father Gordon May, his sister Donna May, mother-in-law Clara Britten and numerous Aunts and Uncles. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara; mother Mavis May; father-in-law Jim Britten; brothers Russ May (Lori) and Doug May (Kathie); sister Laura May (Paul Croteau); brother-in-law Tom (Sandra) Britten; nephews Chris, Gord (Maegan), Ben (Quinn) and Nathan Goulet; and nieces Lisa (Kensley) Palmer, Chelsea (Blaine) May, Kiirsten (Jason) May, Monique (Monty) Sundquist and their children Paige, Lauryn, Matthew, and Lindsay; Kelsie (Kyle) Britten, and Marina (Ian) Britten. The newest additions to the family were grandnieces Kaeli and Ember, joining grandnephew Mason Palmer all of whom Jeff was just getting to know. A large extended family in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, will remember him for all the good times they shared. Jeff was born October 2, 1948 in Winnipeg and grew up in St. James. After graduating from St. James Collegiate in 1966, Jeff spent the next six years juggling university studies with a seasonal job laying track for CN Rail and winters on the competitive curling circuit across Canada. By the early 1970's, Jeff had earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba; developed a sturdy physique; established his reputation as an outstanding curler; and launched his professional career in the insurance industry with Manulife. In February 1975, Jeff met Barb at a Deer Lodge Curling Club dance and they have been together since. Jeff moved to Regina in July 1980 to take a position with Co-Operators Insurance as a group benefits underwriting Supervisor. Barb and Jeff had been engaged for 5 years at this point, and they were married in December 1980 in Winnipeg. They have made their home in Regina ever since, but travelled regularly back to Winnipeg to see family and friends. Jeff retired from Co-Operators a few years ago, holding the position of National Marketing Manager for Group Employee Benefit plans. He loved his job most days; travelled quite a bit; and formed many friendships over the years with colleagues from across the country. Jeff and Barb travelled frequently in retirement to visit friends and family in Alberta, BC and Manitoba. He loved to get out on the highway and drive to vacation spots across the USA and Canada. Jeff treasured our partnership town house on the golf course at Meadow Lake Resort in Montana. We would travel down to Montana as often as possible. His other loves included golf, family reunions, entertaining nieces and nephews, the Blue Bombers, the Toronto Blue Jays, doing Crossword puzzles, gardening, pruning his hedges and flowers, reciting Robert Service poems, a good single malt scotch, and the list goes on. Jeff loved life and has left us way too soon. He will be missed by so many. There will be a celebration of Jeff's life at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., reception to follow. A family gathering will be held on Monday, August 8 at Brookside Cemetery for interment of Jeff's ashes. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Jeff can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. I was sad to learn recently that Jeff had passed away. I offer my condolences to his family.
Jeff was one of my client contacts at Cooperators through much of his career there and we shared a common background as group underwriters. I remember him as deeply committed to his profession and to getting the right answer notwithstanding current fashion. He was always helpful when I was looking for information or advice.

I am sorry for your loss.

Barb, I was so shocked and sorry to hear from you about Jeff. Although we had seen you for years we still consider you our friends forever. I told the kids the sad news and they said they will miss "Uncle Jeff". Yes, they still call you Auntie Barb and Uncle Jeff. Please call when you get home. Kathie and Terry Frombach
