Ahhh Fran-I know the days are long and the nights are longer, but your big bear of a man will always be with you never doubt it. I remember one day when he came to the office, knelt down in front of my desk and started reading to me from his book! He was so warm and funny and enthused while doing it but I finally told him I had to get back to work. He laughed and said "tell your boss he´s a slave-driver," while my boss was standing right there we all laughed! That was Jeffrey through and through

Jeffrey & Fran...my Venice Beach "Mutt & Jeff"....what a wonderful life they shared. One of my fondest memories of Jeffrey was the first time I saw him right after my father had died, we were at a West Hollywood Democratic Club meeting and he strode across the room, looked me straight in the eye and enfolded me in a loving, nurturing, healing bear hug. No words were needed, but the absolute love I got from him that day was a big part of my healing process. And our funnies memories? I found out he shaved in his steam shower, so when we'd see each other, we'd stroke each others faces to see who got the smoothest shave of the day....

While we didn´t know Jeffrey well, we knew of him through stories told by Fran. It was so wonderful today to see family, friends, and neighbors at the bench dedication. As I stood at the edge of the crowd, two women around my age (old) walked by with a dog. One let out a yelp when she saw the pictures of Jeffrey and said "I know that man! He was always at every local event- so friendly! And so tall!" It reminded us that The Boardwalk is a neighborhood first and a world tourist attraction second. That´s easy to forget-but Jeffrey never did.
Our love to Fran and the whole, large, amazing family and friends of Jeffrey. Daphne & John

Jeffrey was a true champion for people who suffered from mental illness. He overcame great obstacles and had great empathy for everyone who crossed his path. He was a truly kind and loving person.
