Jeffrey J. Vail, age 65, at rest February 18, 2023. Beloved father of Lindsay, Hunter, and Trevor. Proud Grandfather of Evey. Former husband of Suzanne Allison. Beloved son of the late James and Jane Vail. Brother to Marilynne, Roger, and Cheryl. An Uncle, Father-In-Law, Coach, and friend of many. An exceptional athlete, Jeff’s early years were spent playing sports, particularly baseball, for Eisenhower High School and then Saint Xavier University, which led to being drafted to the Toronto Blue Jays. Jeff obtained his MBA from Illinois Institute of Technology and had a successful career in commercial banking, finance, real estate, and sales. He loved all Chicago sports, attending sporting events, live music, comedy, entertaining, and playing golf. Not only a devoted father to his children, Jeff was known for instilling his knowledge and wisdom into each and every one he met, whether on a sports field or at a backyard barbecue. He will be remembered for his unrelenting energy, lively personality, and ability to command a room with his stories, jokes, and laughter.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, visitation beginning at 11:00 am, with services beginning at 12:00 pm, at the Bremen VFW Post 2791, 17147 Oak Park Ave, Tinley Park, IL 60477. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve or Saint Xavier University.

A message to my brother Jeff Thank you. I thought about a tree but making a donation to Sanit Xavier baseball program seemed perfect. Forever grateful for having you as my brother and for you being an Uncle to Jenny and Jackson 24/7.

Jeff made me laugh and occasionally slap my forehead with a comment he’d make, but that was Jeff. No one could say he wasn’t a unique human being. I’ll remember him with a smile and be grateful to him for being a part of my life, and always being respectful to me without fail. I’ll miss his easily recognized laughter from across a room and I’ll miss finding the source of it. Rest in peace, Jeff. You’ve left us with fond memories.

If you had Jeff as a friend, you hit the lottery in life. He was as loyal and trustworthy a friend as you could have. I hit the jackpot sophomore year at Eisenhower, nearly fifty years ago. Jeff was an amazing athlete. He was a great teammate, a leader and friend. He will be sorely missed, but will live on in all who knew him. I'm proud to say I knew him well and loved the guy. My sincere condolences to Lindsay, Hunter, Trevor, Evey and all of his family.
