Jeffrey Williams Obituary

Jeffrey John Williams, 54, breathed his last breath on earth and his first in heaven on Thursday, July 18, 2019. He lived loving intense, intimate relationships and accelerating toward each hill in front of him (on his bike and in his work), and now he lives within an unlimited relationship with the Trinity to whom he entrusted his heart. He spends much of his time in heaven as he did on earth: Asking Jesus intimate questions and getting immediate (and often hilarious) answers.
For 30 years, Jeff worked as a counselor, therapist, coach, and trainer, empowering hundreds of individuals through his passionate belief in who they could become. Jeff and his wife Jill were pioneers in the model of Marriage Coaching and founded three organizations: Great Relationships, an international ministry dedicated to training leaders in coaching, Grace & Truth Relationship Education, and Marriage Resource Center of Miami Valley, a marriage initiative that has impacted several Ohio counties. For a season, Jeff helped other communities in the U.S. develop community marriage policies and initiatives. More recently Jeff became a trainer for Leadership Metaformation, helping people live, lead and coach from the heart. Jeff was a writer and the author of several books, curriculum, articles, and devotionals. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Damascus, Maryland and member and choral director for the Waterboyz for Jesus ministry.
Jeff’s love for people came out in his fierce commitment and unflagging encouragement to friends, his relentless pursuit to be the best husband and father, and his joy in being with his wife, family, and grandchildren. He always had time to talk to the server, barista, store clerk or whoever he just met on the street. Jeff weathered the deep heartaches of life (including the ones he caused) by learning humility as he met God within the pain and came out on the other side with new resolve to create a positive impact with his life. In his final years, Jeff passionately and vulnerably ministered out of his own personal transformation.
Born and raised in Springfield, Ohio Jeff enjoyed the gift of music, baseball, golf and the outdoors imparted from his father. He participated in numerous other sports, and then football at Hanover College in Indiana. Jeff’s love of sports, belief in quality training and discipline helped him successfully coach many youth soccer, baseball and football teams during the 1990s. Becoming proficient in racquetball, golf, road and mountain biking, Jeff mastered every sport he engaged in. In the weeks before his death, Jeff’s newest pursuit was swimming. His favorite moments in life were those spent hiking the mountains with his wife.

Jeff enjoyed 33 years of marriage to his wife, Jill A. Williams, his best friend and companion, in a relationship that was even more precious to him at the end than at the beginning. Surviving is his wife, 3 children: Joshua Williams and Brooke, Carly Williams-Gudenius and Eric Jr., and Laura Williams; 4 grandchildren: GabbyAnne, Skylar, Jovie and Miles. He is also survived by his sister Julie Hyland and Dan. Jeff loved to tickle his grandchildren, go snack-hunting, take walks, play, and talk to them about God. He never took this time with his family for granted. Jeff’s legacy lives on in many family members and friends, too numerous to list, but not forgotten. Jeff has been reunited with his parents in heaven, John W. Williams and Patricia R. Williams.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 27015 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Relationships (mailed to Keeney and Basford Funeral Home P.A., Attention Jill Williams), the God-birthed non-profit ministry that Jeff loved. A scholarship is being developed in his name.

Jill. John just sent me this and I realized it was coming up on a year. I can't imagine what you are feeling right now. I just reread the obituary. I think of you and I hope that your life is full of joy and hope and many deep relationships. Again I am so sorry for your loss. Even though we really knew you guys and were close around the 2004 election I remember then you moved I have fond memories of those times. I remembered when my father suddenly passed away in my arms of a heart attack a trauma known should go through especially a child trying to resuscitate their own parent. Who did I call you guys. From New Jersey like what do I do. You always took time for people you and Jeff. Praying for you and your family during this coming up of one year God bless you all. Life is tough

So shocked to find out accidentally when searching for information for a video he and I were discussing. He called me just two days before his passing to see how I was doing. We rode a trail just a month and a half earlier at the park where we met. At that time he shared some wonderful and uplifting words from his wife Jill. What a good friend to God and me he wasis.

I just learned about Jeff's passing from a colleague today, and was stunned to hear the news. I met Jeff and his wife years ago during specialized training on Life Giving Conversations. With the combination of his clinical skills and God's anointing, the training participants were touched and put on the path of healing from the employee suicides losses experienced in the organization. It was evident that God's Spirit was residing in him. I prayer for peace and comfort for the family.

So very sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. Though we were not in contact after school, aside from class reunions, it seems like the life he made as an adult reflected how he was as a boy: kind, smiling, and nice to everyone. The world is less without such souls.

Dear Jill, my heartbreaks for you & the children & grandchildren. This brief separation would be devastating were it not for the fact that Jeff is with his beloved Redeemer and at peace, probably singing passionately. You are in my prayers and have always had a special place in my heart. God bless you!!

I am stunned. Jeff called me a few weeks ago. We had not talked in 4 or 5 years. It was like we had spoken the day before. He spoke of a dream he had about me and had to share.. We caught up on life and God. He was a great man and better friend. I will think of him often. My heart goes out to Jill and family.

Jeff had a passion for helping others enjoy life and marriage as much as he did. His love for God was contagious and will stay with Mike and me always.

Jill, Josh, Carly, Laura Beth and extended family, we are so sorry for your loss, but especially thankful for the friendship that we formed in the 1990s. Jeff and I rode a lot of miles that decade and developed a great friendship that I will always cherish. We will continue to pray for you in this time of your loss.

I am so shocked and brokenhearted to hear of Jeff's untimely passing. I know he is well and happy to be face to face with His Lord, but oh, how he will be so greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Jill and family, I am so very sorry, and we are keeping you held in prayer. May you feel Papa's presence wrapping you tightly in his arms.
