Jennifer Burgin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2024.
Jennifer Joy (Korevec) Burgin was born May 2, 1983, to Scott & Ann Korevec in Anchorage, AK. She attended Ptarmigan Elementary, Clark Middle School and Bartlett High. When she was young, she enjoyed playing with friends, loving on her younger brother, drawing cartoons, spending weekends at her family's lake cabin, and taking motorhome road trips and vacations with her family. She had a strong love for animals and often came home begging to keep any stray she found.

After graduating from high school, Jennifer, known to all of her friends as "Jay," moved to the Seattle area where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from the University of Washington. She later returned to Alaska where she met her husband and gave birth to her daughter, Lyla, who she loved more than anyone in the world. They soon moved to Hawaii where she loved soaking up the sun and playing on the beach with her new daughter. A few years later, she and Lyla returned to the Seattle area where she worked part time as a realtor while enjoying motherhood and making memories with forever friends. Jennifer and Lyla moved back to Anchorage in 2018.

Jennifer had a radiant smile and showed kindness and generosity to those around her. She was creative and loved holidays and celebrations, always having the perfect costume or decorations for each special occasion. Her cupcake decorating skills could have landed her a spot on a TV baking show. Movies and songs were anchored in her memory. She could pull a quote out of thin air or name any actor on the screen. She loved fun times and new adventures with her friends and family. Her humor and wit always kept people laughing.

While in Seattle, Jay became a die-hard Seahawks fan, watching every game and attending many of them. There was no better 12th man! She loved glamping her way through Alaska's summers and was an Alaskan fishing girl all the way. Throwing a line in for salmon, halibut, rockfish, or whatever she could catch put a huge smile on her face.

Jennifer passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital on March 12, 2024, after a lengthy illness, with family at her side. During her final weeks, she was surrounded by family and friends who made sure she knew how much she was loved, prayed with her, and shared the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ. In her last few days here on earth, Jennifer cried out to know more about Jesus and the family witnessed peace transcend over her like never before. She is believed to have given her life to Christ which brings great hope in such a tragic situation. She is now free of pain and suffering. We will miss the joy she added to our lives, and grieve the loss of such a unique and beautiful woman.

She is survived by her daughter, Lyla Burgin; her mother and stepfather, Ann & Brad Wilson; stepmother, Linda Korevec; her brother, Kyle Wilson (wife Katie); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Scott Korevec; both maternal and paternal grandparents; her Aunt Sandy; and her cousin, Joshua Korevec.

A service will be held for family and close friends on April 3, 2024, at 3:30 pm, at the Arctic Rec Center, 4855 Arctic Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Anchorage Downtown Soup Kitchen Hope Center.

We lived together briefly after I went through a toxic breakup and she held me together and made sure I laughed and smiled EVERY. DAY.... We watched the Whitney Houston documentary which ended with us bawling our eyes out until we decided... NOPE. She made me get up and we danced to Whitney the rest of the night. We were both terrible dancers and never once cared because we were happy. I can´t help but miss her and her beautiful energy, but I know she´s with us all much more closely this time.

Jay was a force, a light, and a very good friend to so many. She was always there with open arms when things got tough and my(and many others)biggest cheerleader. She was the ultimate fan of holidays, celebrations, and sports... there was no one better to plan a birthday or event with. She always knew how to make others feel extra special. There were times where we didn´t go a single day, for months, without talking at least ten times a day. And there will never be a day that goes by that I don´t wish for that back and for moments with her in them again. There was no one like her. My biggest condolences to her family and friends in AK.

I was Jennifer boss and also became a friend! She was the most compassionate loving person. She Really wore her heart on her sleeve. She loved her daughter and really enjoyed her adventures with her! Although it´s been several years since I have seen her, We stayed in touch over the years. We love you. Fly high my friend and give your dad a hug for me !

I remember Jay as a child...spending time at our home & playing with my daughter Lindsey.
My favorite memory was when the girls got bored & decided to walk to McDonalds. They were 4&5 I think.
We fanned out over the neighborhood to search for them. They were headed in the right direction & unconcerned with our panic when we found them.
Jennifer was always filled with adventure & fun!
Whenever she saw me she´d just yell my name & give me a huge smile.
I´ll miss her! I look forward to seeing her again!
