Jennifer Gibson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2016.
Jennifer Lynn Gibson was born on July 10th, 1967 at five twenty-three in the evening in Yuma, Arizona to Newell David Welch and Dora Ann Collins. As one of four children, she was born, raised and lived a wonderful life in Yuma.

Having received her master's in Education from Northern Arizona University, Jennifer touched many lives over the past twenty-five years as a teacher for both Gwyneth Ham Elementary and James B. Rolle Elementary. She was an extraordinary momma to her four beautiful children: Rebekah Marcellus, Daniel Gibson, Chanda Escamilla, and Melissa Gibson. From her four children, she gained three more. Her daughter Rebekah married Neil Marcellus, Daniel married Sarah Gibson, and Chanda married David Escamilla. Jennifer loved each and every one of her seven children. From her children, she was a grandma to eight grandchildren who all loved her dearly. Jennifer was also a lover of the Lord with a generous servant's heart. She was an avid member of the Church for the City.

The family will be celebrating her life with a visitation open to the public on Friday, February 19th from six to eight in the evening at Johnson's Mortuary. The following day, Saturday, February 20th, they will be holding her funeral at one in the afternoon at the Church for the City (previously Calvary Temple of Christ). Everyone who knew and loved her is welcome to come.

How this family of ours will miss our sweet Jennifer. Even tho she had been in pain for so many years, her passing was a surprise to all of us. She always wore a smile on her face and her laughter was undeniable. We love you to the moon and back, and I can't wait until I feel your arms around me giving me one of your big hugs. While we both start laughing as you call me Jennifer.. Love you Aunt Elaine

I was just barely getting to know Jennifer in our home Bible study. I, along with everyone else, am shocked. We prayed so fervently, but God is sovereign. There has to be a reason why she went to be with Him. My prayers are for all of your family. May the Holy Spirit comfort you as only He can. We will see her again because of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

My little sis. My strength in so many ways. My rock in so many others. Ever at my defense and pushing at me to succeed. I have so many great memories and they flood my emotions as I reflect your passing and burial today. I remember once I was upset when I was young, and Birthday was more or less passed over. I was maybe turning 7 or 8. I was lying in my bunk bed, mom setting beside me trying to comfort me and say I was not forgotten. Then I hear Mark Reynolds on AM 1400 Country station sound off on a boy whose birthday was that day and his favorite song was requested by his sister and she loved him. You running in the room as George Jones hit the first cords of White Lightning! And your smile got all the bigger when I sat up and smiled! You never forgot me. Two of your many loves was riding and sunsets. The evening you passed, I raced my bike to the garage top at Barrows hospital and had our sister Kim take one last photo of me and you. One last sunset as you breathed your last. Until we looked at the two photos, little did we know you were right behind me, watching it with me. My right side and then my left. I realized then sis, Forever in my heart, forever in the wind, ride where you will, but ever with me. I love you little sis.

I remember her smile and happiness as if it was yesterday--I'm glad I met her through Chanda Gibson, and will always remember how she would invite me into her home to spend time with Chanda and her family as a child. My deepest condolences--she will always be remembered.

Even though it has been many years since we last had shared any time, I know that Jennifer had turned into an angel here on earth as a mother, grandmother and the noblest of all professions, teacher. My wish is that our Heavenly Father welcome her into His family, the same as your family welcomed me and all those kids on Holly Drive into your family.

Jennifer's quiet, unassuming demeanor often hid her passionate advocacy for children. She nurtured the difficult, challenging children firmly but with kindness and tenderness, as she did all of her students. Jennifer was a master teacher, and I count myself lucky to have been able to work alongside her and to call her my friend.

My husband, Gerry, joins me in expressing our heartfelt condolences to her beloved children and grandchildren.

My sincere condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Mrs Gibson during this difficult time. My son was a student of Mrs Gibson for both his 2nd grade and 4th grade at Rolle Elementery. I developed a special place in my heart for Mrs Gibson during the time when my son was her student, my son was suffering from learning disabilities at the time, going through many tests and evaluations during those 3 years, and Mrs Gibson was one of his greatest advocates. I will never forget the last meeting we had with the panel of teachers and school psychologist, Mrs Gibson was in tears because she didn't feel that my son was getting the help he needed. Her love and passion helped me to keep fighting for my son when I felt like giving up and I am forever greatfull to her for that! Thank you Mrs Gibson, you will be missed!

I was barely getting to know her personally at our small group Bible study. It is such a shock that she has gone from us. My prayers are for all of her family members, that you may sense the Presence of Jesus, our Lord, very strongly at this time. May the Holy Spirit comfort you as only He can. God never makes mistakes, so there surely is a reason she went on ahead of us. The Lord assured me of that when my brother left this world unexpectedly at about the same age as Jennifer. Praises be to our saving God that we will be reunited in our Heavenly Home.
