JERALD SUSSMAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 9 to Feb. 12, 2022.
SUSSMAN Jerald Bruce Sussman Jerald Bruce Sussman of Centreville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the age of 61. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and truly the kindest, sweetest man on earth. Jerry dedicated 30 years of his life to the Central Intelligence Agency. He spent his first 15 years working for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), wherein he designed, managed, and launched surveillance satellites. He stood up when the towers fell on September 11, dedicating his final 15 years of work inside the Directorate of Operations' Information Operations Center. In addition to the numerous Exceptional Performance Awards he earned, he was awarded CIA's highest honor for technology experts -- the McCone Award and the Dreiling Award, which is given for engineering innovation. He retired in 2014 and was a founder of Langley Cyber. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Julie Sussman, who over these past ten years devoted her days to helping Jerry manage his courageous battle with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). He is also survived by his cherished children; daughter Rebecca Sussman of Washington, DC and son Chad Sussman, wife Bess, and their children John and George, of Springfield, VA. In addition, he is survived by his mother, June Sussman; sister Judy Nath (Robert); and brother Ronald Sussman (Sue). Services will be held at Saint Bernadette's Catholic Church in Springfield, Virginia on Monday, February 14 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will immediately follow at the Westfield Marriott in Chantilly. The family would love to celebrate Jerry and to thank everyone who has been so kind during this most difficult time. Condolences to Julie and family. I´m Amy´s college roommate, and I still remember Amy telling me stories from when Jerry and Julie first met and started dating. My heart is heavy for this loss, but I also know it was a beautiful road you traveled together.

My sincere condolences to Julie, Rebecca, Chad and Bess on the loss of Jerry. He was such a tough fellow, always focused on making progress, in work and in his quest for better health, despite his challenges over the past several years. I'll miss my conversations with Jerry and am comforted by the fact that he is now free from pain and smiling down on all of us who considered him a friend.

What a privilege to have Jerry and his lovely family as a neighbor and a friend. The world lost an incredible man whose brilliance was only surpassed by his kind, compassionate heart. God's Speed Jerry! You will be missed by so many! Forever in our hearts!
