Jerome Burke Obituary
Jerry was a graduate of Winamac High School, Winamac, IN. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He attended the University of Illinois on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a bachelor's degree in agriculture.
In 1950, he married Elinor Armstrong and together they raised 13 children, first in the Chicago suburbs and later in Morrisonville and Springfield, IL. He worked at the 1st State Bank of Morrisonville for 10 years before moving to Springfield to become proprietor of the Parkview Motel. He joined the US Postal Service in Springfield as a letter carrier in 1973. Upon retirement, he and Elinor owned and operated the Rainbo Motel in Beardstown, IL until her passing in 2002. Upon his marriage to Lorraine "Rainey" Sieben Warhus in 2004, he acquired 12 stepchildren. Jerry and Rainey lived in Downers Grove, IL for several years before moving to their final home in Nalcrest, FL. He is survived by his children, Tom (Carol), Mike (Mary), Joe, Helen, Frank, Mary, Margaret (Joseph Sanchez), Catherine, Clare, Martha Anne, John, Jim, and Sarah; 11 stepchildren, Donn (Marni), Mark (Vicki Herman), Terry (Pauli), Candace, Shawn (Wendy), Kevin (Cathy), Brian (Lori), Anne (Ron LaBruno), Daren (Chrissie), Denis (Cynthia) and Joe; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: Mass at Saint Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church, Downers Grove, IL on Monday, May 5 at 11:30 a.m. Mass at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Springfield, IL on Wednesday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services with military honors and interment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Il on Wednesday, May 7 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Special Olympics, 2600 Virginia Ave NW, 11th Floor, Washington, DC 20037 or online at www.specialolympics.org
