JEROME FUNARO Obituary
Age 81, of Oakdale, passed away peacefully at Asbury Heights Nursing Center on August 20, 2015, of complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born on August 9, 1934, Jerry was the son of the late William and Maria Rose Funaro; beloved husband of Patricia (Punola) Funaro; and loving father of Jerome R. Funaro, Jr. (Scott Johnstone). He also is survived by his sister, Amelia Roach; brother, Eugene (Gail); and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by sisters, Josephine James, Lena Bruno, Elizabeth Bruno, Rose Descalzi; and brothers, Frank, William and Samuel. Jerry was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Robinson Township. He was a Charter Member, 4th Degree, and Past Grand Knight of Holy Trinity Council 11279. A veteran, Jerry served honorably with the U.S. Army. Jerry loved sports, especially the Steelers, Pirates and the North Fayette Softball League, where he competed for many years. Family will welcome friends Monday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the JOSEPH M. SOMMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5405 Steubenville Pike, Moon Run, Robinson Twp. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Jerry was known to all for his kindness, compassion and generosity. In that spirit and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Church, 5718 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136-1311 or the Asbury Foundation, 700 Bower Hill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.

Pat, I know the feelings of your loss but know you are a strong believer and your life journey continues without Jerry. We are blessed to have the fond memories and can relive in our thoughts and prayers the good times with good health and much happiness.

Pat,
I think of you often and ask Nancy about you! I am so happy you are at a very safe, beautiful and peaceful residence. All your needs are well cared for and you do not have to worry about upkeep of property, trimming hedges, painting, etc. I know Jerry would be very upset with all the sports turmoil today....not anything is the same. We are glad for the memories of past sports and the joy and laughter we shared with our favorite teams.

It was such a pleasure to have lunch with you last week and our sharing on Jerry's birthday. We have the many fond memories sharing meals at Asbury in the private corner dining room with the view!

Dear Pat,
I share your lost and feel your sadness but we cling to the many fond memories of Jerry and his loving and caring spirit. I loved to chat sports with him; he knew all the stats for all the sports that I followed. It became a "family" in The Corner Point Dining Room each evening. Blessing and Peace as you transition your life's journey without Jerry.

Dear Pat and Family "A classmate has finally been relived of his pain and suffering. He has completed his journey home to his Lord's house." My last visit with him and several of our classmates recalls his acceptance of his health set backs, he never lost his faith. May the Lord bless you and your family at this moment of sorry.
