Jerome Greenway Obituary

Jerome E. Greenway

Jerome E. Greenway (Jerry), our beloved husband and father, passed from this life August 28, 2018, in Bellingham, WA from complications of congestive heart failure. He will be sorely missed by Betsy, his wife of 63 years; his children, Karin Tanimura, Ken (Rosemary) Greenway, and Nancy (Paul) Ingold; and his grandchildren, Joshua Tanimura (Kei), Kelsey Greenway, and Jeremy, Micah and Joanna Ingold; and his great-grandchildren, Ririka and Shuma Tanimura.

Jerry grew up in U. District with his adoptive parents, Ed and Elva Greenway. He played golf and baseball at Roosevelt HS and later graduated from UW in finance. Jerry and Betsy married in 1954 and moved to Japan where Jerry served in the army for two years. After the army, Jerry worked many years at Dean Witter and then Piper Jaffrey as a financial adviser, eventually training up future stockbrokers. Jerry was fun loving and jovial. He enjoyed life with his many friends at Seattle Golf Club and on fishing adventures in the Pacific NW and Alaska. He was an accomplished pianist. He served as president of the NW Sr. Golf Assn. and on the board of the Seattle Lung Assn. Even at the end of his life, Jerry kept those around him smiling with silly rhyming songs and jokes.

He will be missed by all.

Never too late to remember a friend. My favorite was from a golf game at Seattle Golf Club. We, a threesome, Pete, Tom and Jerry had made it to the 12th green in a friendly match. Jerry´s turn to putt, he seemed to hesitate for a long time. When questioned if all was OK, he said sure and then froze again over the ball. He looked very unsteady, so Pete and I each grab an arm just in time to get knocked to the ground, hard. Not by Jerry but his brand new pace maker. 911 came, Pete and I proceeded to play the next few holes with out Jerry... to be totally surprised when he rejoined us to finish the last few holes and enjoy lunch together! Cleared by 911 to resume one of his favorite activities!

Jerry was a compassionate person and a special friend. In England, 2001, he pushed my golf cart allowing me to play when fatigued from a heart incident on the trip. He will be missed. Our sympathies and prayers for comfort to Betsy and the family.

I'll cherish the memory of many great times together, most of them around golf. Our golf trips and spirited competition will always be highlights. I can still hear your cackle!
Deepest sympathy and many prayers to all the family.
