December 27, 2014
Our deepest condolences for your loving husband, Jay, who was loved by many. We will always remember Jay as a dear friend in New Dorp High and also on Midland Beach as a lifeguard. Vin and I saw him last June and are grateful to have spent some time with him. Loyal. Astute, intelligent and kind are just a few of his attributes we recall. His great memories will keep you grounded. He is with you in spirit always! May he RIP.

Dear Vita,
Cindy is right that Jay's spirit will always be with us as we look back on all those wonderful childhood days on Pleasant Valley Avenue, but his spirit also will live on in other ways that need to be recalled:When Jay was in our wedding he was getting ready to go into the Marines to fly jets;a few years later he came to Mardi Gras on his way to Vietnam as an advisor where he helped the South Vietnamese defeat Hanoi's "Easter Offensive"--we all saw him on TV calling in airstrikes to help his unit that was engaged with the NVA;later, after his service in the Marines, he became a member of NYC's Council.
I think what all of those point to was Jay's dedication and love of his country and Corps and to his sense of service to his community."OD-THE ROCK"--A GREAT AMERICAN,A GREAT MARINE,A WONDERFUL HUSBAND AND FATHER--WE LOVE YOU AND WILL ALL MISS YOU.JEANNETTE AND LOU CAMPOMENOSI

To the family of Jay O'Donovan, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Although I don't think we ever had the opportunity to meet, I know that my father, Bob Connor and my brother, Bob Jr. considered him a very special friend and colleague who was selfless when someone asked for his help.
My condolences go out to you all. Sue Connor Bird

We will miss Jay and his smile and generosity. As children we played. As adults we talked and shared laughs and memories of our childhood. Sledding on Pleasant Valley Avenue, trips to the Jersey Shore, tag and damming up the brook in the woods. These memories will keep Jay's spirit in all of us. Thoughts and prayers to Vita. Cindy
