"A man of integrity"
11/12/41 - 1/24/24
Jerry was born in Rochester, New York. After putting himself through school, including McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, college at the State University of New York Brockport, and graduate school at the State University of New York Plattsburgh, Jerry dedicated his life to education, leadership, family, and friends.
He built a career in the New York State school system, first as a teacher, then principal, and then superintendent, a position he held until retirement. He had an unselfish commitment to the pursuit of excellence in education, inspiring others to do the same. Having resided in Green Valley, Arizona, since 1998, he held community leadership roles at the Valley Presbyterian Church, the White Elephant (an organization with a mission to financially aid educational and charitable groups), the Green Valley Rotary, and the governance board at La Posada. He was a lifelong learner and traveler. Fishing, reading, writing, golf, baseball, the Buffalo Bills, and researching family history were his passions.
His cremains will be placed at the La Posada Columbarium by his family at a future date. He is survived by "his bride" and "traveling companion" of nearly 55 years, Susan H. Ochs, son Matthew J. Ochs, daughter-in-law Suzanne Rauch-Ochs, sisters Barbara A. Klein and Kathleen J. (Shaw) Bouley, and brothers Kenneth P. Ochs and Ronald R. Ochs. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph B. and Marjorie A. Ochs, and brothers, John K. Ochs and James R. Ochs.
In the spirit of maximizing the well-being of seniors in the community in which he lived, remembrances may be made to La Posada Foundation, 350 E. Morningside Road, Green Valley, Arizona 85614.
