SIEGEL JEROME "JERRY"
Passed away on August 6, 2009 in Dallas, Texas where he lived with his daughter, Susan, and son in law, Alan. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Equally important, Jerry was a true "mensch." Jerry was born in Pittsburgh on September 15, 1919 to Jacob and Libby Siegel. He spent his entire life in Pittsburgh and entered the family business, Siegel's Jewelers, in 1937 when he joined his father and his brother Ralph. In addition, his brother Herschel had his optometry practice directly next door. Siegel's Jewelers existed for over 50 years and was a fixture on the South Side on Carson Street. During that time, Jerry found the time to become President of the Chamber of Commerce and was honored as Man of the Year by the South Side Chamber for his efforts as its President and spearheading the business revitalization of that section of Pittsburgh. He also pursued his passion as a public speaker through his participation in Toastmasters and serving as an area governor for that organization. Retirement did not slow Jerry down. He was the longest serving President of the Bower Hill Homeowners Association where he resided until moving to the Covenant in Mount Lebanon where he served for a period of time on the Residents Council. Jerry was also a volunteer at the Saint Clair Hospital where he as a member of the "20 Year Club" of volunteers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, and his brothers Ralph and Sam. He is survived by his greatest joys which include his daughter and his son in law, Susan and Alan Klein, four grandchildren, Amy and Dustin Eber and Marni and Graeme Rael, and six great grandchildren, Jonah, Benjamin, Adam, Sam, Brendan and Lily. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Herschel Siegel and his wife, Alice, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His good friends Mort Lowe and Jacob Benami will miss him dearly. In his late years, Jerry was extremely proud of the revitalized Jewish traditions practiced by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed but his spirit will shine forever. Graveside Services and Interment will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery/Temple Emanuel Section, 509 Washington Rd., Mt. Lebanon with Rabbi Mark Mahler officiating. In lieu of sending flowers, contributions can be made to Jewish Family and Children Services of Pittsburgh, 5743 Bartlett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Arrangemets entrusted to RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC.

I have many fond memories shopping with my Mom at "Mr. Siegel's store". He and his brothers left a wonderful legacy on the South Side. May his memory be honored and cherished.
