Jerry O'Neal Bishop, age 81, passed away on February 24, 2024.

At 18, he started at Western Union and was in various managerial positions for sixteen years. While in St Louis, he met his future wife, Jane, and they were married in August of 1973.

In 1978, they started Bishop Food Company, a deli distributor to great success in the Atlanta area for 15 years. He sold controlling interest, but stayed on in management capacity for several years, eventually retiring in 2005.

Jerry was a long-time member of the Roswell First Baptist Church. An organization he felt passionate about was NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) where he served as president of the Northside chapter for three years.

Jerry leaves his wife of 50 years, Jane, a daughter and son-in-law, Rhea and Chad Erichsen of Marietta and son Brian Bishop of Roswell. Jerry is also survived by brother Jim Bishop and wife Joyce of Union, Kentucky, with niece Ingrid and nephew Chris, and sister-in-law Ann Nelms and husband Gary of Springfield, Missouri with nieces Leslie and Emily, and nephew Andrew.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life at Roswell First Baptist Church, 710 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell GA on Friday, March 8th at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors or Bo Buice Sunday School class at Roswell First Baptist Church.

It is so sad to lose Jerry. Nothing stays the same, life changes, but we all are thankful that Jerry has provided cherished memories. Memories are forever. Jerry was a friend, a good friend, and classmate for seventy years. We traveled thru life together, sharing daring episodes, crazy adventures, and just everyday life. Jerry loved to share youthful history as much as everyone else loved hearing him describe them in a spell binding narrative. He was also mindful of loss our other classmates endured and always reminded them that he remembered. I am grateful to have had Jerry as a friend and life traveler.

Home room period was by alphabetical order, so Jerry picked at me every morning. Home room was always fun until the teacher showed up. He was always trying to get me agitated!
Later in our life's we continued our fun with group meeting in Gatlinburg and Jackson. My husband, Paul and I lived in Gatlinburg, we did not have far to travel. Jerry was still good natured, kind, funny and always something goofy to say.
You are missed! With love and a few tears. God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Jerry was my high school classmate in Jackson, TN. Always friendly to everyone. Energetic and fun loving. At our class reunions, he was always especially attentive to fellow classmate Regina Ray Pickens who had MS . Jerry would make sure she was right in the middle of things. She adored him.
Jim and I send our deepest sympathy to his family. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
