Not sure what to say?

January 4, 2017

My wife, Iola Pickul, and I were newly weds in 1956, and when Jerry started his practice in Victoria, I was stationed at Foster AFB. Iola went to work for Jerry for a while. Often, we would babysit Mercedes so they could go out for dinner. In 1999, I was invited to a re-union of the Air Base, and Iola happened to mention Dr.Crabtree's name to the person showing us around, and she said that he was near his airplane. He remembered her and hugged her with a big smile. I'll never forget him, as he was a wonderful person. Unfortunately, Iola passed away on 9-29-16, just before Jerry did. John Pickul. As I compose my thoughts, the news of Jerry's passing fresh and raw, a gush of memory from my youth flows forth. So many heartfelt emotions, life lessons, good times come to mind and lip yet to pen them here, now feels wrong. These are things I should have said to him. Of course, sentiments delayed are proverb and perhaps all too human. That loss is mine.
Good hunting, good fishing, good life. Thanks for sharing. Farewell friend.

Dr Crabtree was my fathers and my doctor back in the 1970s and 80s. He always made time to visit and ask about what was going on in our lives when we saw him during times of his care. He was a rare breed in medicine. My dad considered him more like a friend. His staff was a great group including La Verne who always made us smile. My sincere sympathy to Margaret, Wes and family for your loss. He was a blessing to so many and is fondly remembered!

Dr Crabtree was more than a Doctor, he was also a friend. A true original in character and manner. I will always remember his smile and the smiles he left me with. I am very glad that now he has his "Wings" back!

It was a pleasure to have Dr. Crabtree as my supervising physician for 4 years while I worked at LyondellBasell. I loved our conversations about life and he taught me so much about fulfilling life to the fullest. I was honored to witness his marriage to Lanell and to call him a friend. You will greatly be missed by so many!!! Prayers to his family during this difficult time!!

Dr.Jerry, my greatgrandma's "RedHead" , always bragged he was THE FIRST man to make me cry! His infectious smile made you feel you were going to be all right when you sought his care. I remember the "house calls", waking up in sick bed at home and behold he was there concerned and quiet. You'd always feel better--a great placebo Doc!
Remembering a conversation about how a daughter is highly influenced by her father, we looked no farther than his relationship with Margaret--flying the big airplanes.

Dr. Crabtree was a true original. There is no way that anyone could be around him and not feel cared about and uplifted. He practiced medicine as he lived his life--with passion and a whole heart. I had the pleasure of having him as a substitute when Dr. Glover was away on two occasions, and I also knew him through Margaret when we both took piano lessons from Mr. Felger.

My prayers are with his family as they celebrate his life and homegoing. As he rests in God's presence, may the grace and peace of Christ shine on his family.

Sincerely,

"Eddie"
