I'm sad to hear about Jerry's passing. To the Grote family my deepest condolences. I remember playing tennis with Jerry and eating plates of boiled shrimp at the neighborhood tennis courts. He and his family are very nice people. I think about him and Sharon often and the kindness they showed me as I was in highschool. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. RIP my friend.

I am a big Braves fan but I had a ton of respect for Jerry. He played the game the right way. May he rest in peace.

A master behind the plate, and a key player on some great Met teams. The high praise that Jerry has received, from some of greatest who have ever played and followed the game, is indicative of how great a catcher he was. The high regard in which Jerry was held, by the very many who knew him, reflects how great a person he was.

Jerry Grote was the best defensive catcher of his era. He and his 1969 Mets teammates made a baseball season magical for a kid that loved baseball. Thanks for the memories Jerry. RIP and God bless. Now the Franchise has his catcher behind the plate again calling a masterpiece of a game!
