Jerry Magone Obituary

Jerry R. Magone, 78, of Donora, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, in St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. He was born Friday, Jan. 4, 1935, in Monessen, the son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Mandarino) Magone. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Donora. Jerry was a graduate of Monessen High School, California University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his master's degree in social work. He began his employment with U.S. Steel and ended his career with the State of Pennsylvania as an assistant director of the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and dance partner of 53 years, Antoinette (Sasko) Magone on Dec. 17, 2009; two sisters, Virginia Trilli and Margaret DiPiazza; and a brother, George Magone. Survivors include his children, Dr. Jerry Magone of Ohio, Thomas Magone of Ohio, Dr. Randolph Magone of Carroll Township and Dr. Nancy Magone Proviano of Maryland; six grandchildren, Brian, Kevin (Ashley), Eric and Rocco Magone and Natalie and Angela Proviano; a brother and best friend, Albert Magone, a brother William Magone; sister, Julia Altemare; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Magone; also several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township, Donora PA 15033, 724-379-6900. Prayers will be recited 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, in the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Valley Church, Donora, with the Rev. Father James Bump as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
