Dr. Jerry Rice, after a battle with acute leukemia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the age of 63.
Jerry was born in Evansville, Ind., and grew up in Newburgh, Ind. He worked for years as a Tool & Die Maker. In 1972, the Lord called him into the ministry. He has served in the ministry for 40 years as a Pastor, Assistant Pastor, and in Christian Education. In 2008, he became one of the Associate Pastors of People's Baptist Church and the Elementary Principal of Greenville Christian Academy, both in Greenville, N.C.
He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He also enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord and loved serving Him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norris W. and Ernestine Layman Rice; a brother, Gary Rice; and a grandson, Micah John Rice.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Knight Rice; four sons, Scott Rice, of Williamsburg, Ohio, Neal Rice and his wife, Amy, of Greenville, N.C, Aaron Rice and his wife, Jackie, of Montgomery, Ohio, and Mark Rice,of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Rice and Norman Rice, of Evansville, Ind.; and two sisters, Janine Young and Jennifer Barron, of Evansville, Ind.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 1900 S. Lodge Ave., Evansville, Ind. A service and burial was held in Greenville, N.C. Arrangements by Smith Funeral & Cremation Services, Greenville, N.C.
