In memory of
Ellen L. Stevens

Jess was my baby brother with 3 sisters. He was a very knowledgeable person. He always loved being in the know and shared it very well through his newspaper writing. At about age 5 my grandfather passed away in OK and our mother rode the bus back to Oklahoma to attend his service. The sisters all stayed home and Jess went with her on the bus. When they returned home we heard his exciting trip reviews so many times. He would tell us every thing all the nice people had done for him. He never left anything out of his story. So we were not surprised that he became a newspaper reporter.
We were all very proud of his accomplishments with him graduating from Fresno State.
Kingsburg Chamber Of Commerce was a job he enjoyed. I helped him many years with putting the Car Shop together.
Our family so enjoyed the beautiful singing the Chambers family did for the church or for the community. They all did a great job. We miss Kathy especially with her proforming the National Anthem. She did a great job on most anything she sang. The whole family entertained on many occasionals.
Rest in peace Jess and Kathy you are both missed. I love you forever!!!
Your sister Ellen Chambers Stevens.

I enjoyed knowing Jesse at Hampshire Retirement Home in Merced California. He decided I looked Swedish so would say hello in Swedish. That's from him living in Kingsburg. I have fond memories of his stories about journalism and he would sing to us retired folks.

Jess and I worked on community service projects together many years as members of the Kingsburg Kiwanis Club. He also served Kiwanis as a leader in the San Joaquin Valley as Lt. Governor of our Division. Jess was a diligent worker who always finished what he set out to do.

We first met Jesse at the Sunday 6 o´clock Outpour service at the Kingsburg Community Church. Even though he was attending the Assembly of God Church across the street, he enjoyed this contemporary service. Whenever Jesse saw us walking down Draper Street, he would wave. It was sad when he told us (on Draper) they were moving. Nice man. Blessings to his family.

My deepest condolences to Jesse's family and friends. Jesse worked with the schools in Chowchilla so well and made sure that the kids were well-covered in the paper. We only had one disagreement that I can remember, but we came out of it still speaking to one another. RIP, Jesse.
