Two days ago during a mammogram, after the pancake-making device released me and the pain stopped, I cried as thoughts of Jim popped in; it never ceases to amaze me how physical pain and emotional pain can be so related. It´s as if the physical is a place-holder for what we really don´t wanna´ feel.
For the last several months I avoided thinking about the details of his death, until mammo-hell day when I realized that two colors associated with his death together make the color of a peach rose bush I had procrastinated digging up for a new happier spot in better sun. (My garden has several plants in memory of various loved ones but nothing came to me, until that day, for where Jim might be in it.)
It became clear that that was the day I needed to start digging, et voila - to his new home in the sun!!

I write this tribute with sadness, Jim Keating, for I knew you as a brother. We shared many good times and great adventures during the glory days of ski patrol, with fair weather January sojourns to the Valley to climb El Cap´s east buttress, Royal Arches with the rotten log, and more; skiing Mokelumne Peak from Bear Valley, climbing at Calaveras Dome and Mexico to summit Citlatepetl aka Pico de Orizaba from the east with R & R in Vera Cruz. Good memories my friend and you´re gone too soon; rest in peace.

My first memory that I recall was meeting Jim at CJC (now Columbia College). Then he moved into the house with the rest of us in Cedar Ridge. Patrick Sawyer (one e, my first post I spelled my surname wrong.)

My condolences to Jimbo's family. We were housemates and climbing buddies, he was a gentleman and great guy and fun to be with. I wish I had not lost touch with him in later years, c'est la vie. Patrick Sawyeer
