Though a year after his death, I still miss Jim Sheridan. He was a good friend for over 40 years. I am still very sorry that I was not notified about his death by his friends and family and had to learn about it on my own. Jim would have been disappointed by this. He would often call me and talk about politics and Oregon history. Our talks did each of us a great deal of good. I miss those talks.

I was recently going through boxes of documents I'd saved from our shop and came upon a card from Jim - it was sent way back in 2008. Sadly I found this online. Jim was our sales rep. What a kind, kind man - we just loved him at the shop - he always had a hearty laugh and a big smile. Two things he always talked about - his daughters and his pets. What a lovely soul God put on this earth but what an angel heaven has now.

I have known and been friends with Jim for 46 years. He gave me my first job in the Catholic book business at Crossroads in Portland in 1976. We have been friends ever since. I shared with him the loss of his son. In an essay on friendship, I wrote about his medical difficulties and the uncomplaining way in which he faced them. He was a good man and an admirable fellow. I shall miss him.
