Jimmie Calvin “Red” Edward Deems, 86, Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Carterville, Mo., passed into eternal rest at 6:43 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at St. Johns Hospital, in Tulsa, after an illness. Jimmie Calvin Edward Deems was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Noel, Mo., the son of Albert and Myrtle Agnes “Gibson” Deems. He was an electrician, had owned and operated Deems Construction Company and was a machinist. Red was the first person to be hired at the former Vickers Plant in Joplin. He was a loving husband and father and was of the Christian faith. Jimmie Calvin Deems married Marguariete Copeland Feb. 6, 1960. She survives. Additional survivors include four sons, Tommy Deems, Springfield, Mo., George Pinto, Seneca, Donnie Collins, Joplin, and Michael Collins, Carthage; three daughters, Rebecca Wolfe and Teresa Hughart, both of Sand Springs, Okla., and Deborah Ashby, Tulsa; one brother, Junior Deems, Horse Creek, Tenn.; one sister, Agnes Burnsed, Hillsboro, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grand children. Graveside services, under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Ozark Memorial Park.
