As a student I appreciated him taking the time to let us play basketball after school during our elementary years. I also had the the good fortune to have Mr Calvert as a baseball coach. I really got to know and appreciate him as a teaching colleague for many years at Hugoton. Through all those years I still referred to him respectfully as Mr Calvert. A really good role model for kids!

We were part of the new staff in 1967-68. Jim and I enjoyed discussing the sports events, playing volley ball and working the intramural games. He always liked to share the fun he had at the dances he attended. Our children always thought Mr. Calvert was a good guy.

We came to teach at Hugoton the same year Jim did in 1967-68. There were 6 of us teachers who came to Hugoton that year who played cards and tennis together and enjoyed doing things together. Jim always made us laugh and have a good time. Stan and Manelia Stephenson

I am so saddened to hear of Mr. Calvert's passing. My Daddy and I became acquainted with him when he would come to Hensley's every Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm, come rain or shine or any inclement weather to play music for the residents. Daddy and I began referring to him as The Music Man From Cheyenne and we so looked forward to his musical visits. He would play Daddy's requests and Daddy and I would sing along and if The Music Man From Cheyenne did not have what Daddy wanted to hear he would search and find it and have the song for the next Saturday. I lost touch with Mr. Calvert when he had to take an absence from his visits due to health reasons and then Daddy passed away during that time. I hope he knew how much he was appreciated for all he did. Mr. Calvert even came once to check on Daddy when he learned that he was in the Sayre Hospital. I will never forget our Music Man From Cheyenne and my prayers and condolences to his family.

Mr Calvert was one of my favorite teachers. Then over the yrs he was a great friend and taught us many line dancing moves.. He was just as adamant about us learning those dance moves as he was in teaching us in school. He was highly thought of and everyone always asked about him, he will be missed. Love, hugs and prayers to the family.

I taught with Jim four years in Hugoton. He was a tireless dancer. We took several ski trips together at Wolf Creek Pass. He did everything with enthusiasm and high energy.
Jim was a kind and gentle soul, a perfect gentleman. I was proud to call him friend.
RIP, Jim.

Mr. Calvert was an awesome, caring teacher, no nonsense, and got the most out of his students. Always respected him, and enjoyed seeing and talking to him after my school days were over. But could never bring myself to address him as Jim, it was always Mr. Calvert. RIP

I had the honor of being in Mr. Calverts class when I was in 5th grade. I believe it was back in 1992. I loved his class he was such an awesome and wonderful teacher. He was so kind and welcomed me that year. I was new to the school that year and he made it seem not so scary. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Jimmy during the beginning of the 2018/2019 basketball season. He wanted to know which girls were mine and I could tell he genuinely enjoyed being at the games. We exchanged hellos at most every game thereafter. Really a nice man whom Ill miss seeing at the games next year.
